Summary

Job Title: Palliative Care and Symptom Control Clinical Nurse Specialist Department: Cancer Nursing Location: Duchess of Devonshire Wing, 22 Devonshire Place, London, W1G 6JA Salary: £53,931 to £64,710 per annum, depending on experience Hours: Monday to Friday Contract: 10 month fixed term contract A little about the role This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our established Palliative Care and Symptom Control team at The London Clinic. You will provide expert, compassionate support to patients living with life limiting illnesses, helping them achieve the best possible quality of life throughout their care. Working across inpatient and outpatient services, you will independently manage a specialist caseload while collaborating closely with Consultants, nursing teams and the wider multidisciplinary team. This is a highly visible and influential role where your specialist knowledge, clinical judgement and communication skills will make a meaningful difference to patients and their families. What you'll be doing Completing comprehensive and holistic assessments for patients across inpatient and outpatient settings Providing specialist advice and support on symptom control, palliative care and end of life care Developing individualised care plans based on each patient's clinical, emotional, social and spiritual needs Supporting patients and families through complex and sensitive conversations about prognosis and advance care planning Participating in daily ward rounds for patients on the palliative and symptom control caseload Acting as a patient advocate and providing specialist input during multidisciplinary team meetings Working closely with internal teams and community services to support safe and effective discharge planning Providing clinical guidance, education and support to ward based teams Contributing to clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives and the continued development of the service Participating in the on call rota in line with service requirements What we're looking for Registered Adult Nurse with current NMC registration Significant post registration experience within acute oncology or cancer services At least one year of experience working as a Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialist or at a senior Band 6 or Band 7 level Strong clinical knowledge of symptom control, palliative care and end of life care Advanced communication skills, with the confidence and sensitivity to manage complex discussions with patients and families The ability to work autonomously, manage a specialist caseload and make sound clinical decisions A leadership or management qualification Experience contributing to clinical audit, research, quality improvement or service development What you'll be part of You will be based within the Duchess of Devonshire Wing, our dedicated cancer centre, where oncology, haematology and specialist supportive services are brought together in a purpose designed environment. Palliative and symptom control care is fully integrated into the patient pathway, supported by strong multidisciplinary working and visible clinical leadership. You will work alongside experienced Consultants, senior nurses and other specialist professionals within a collaborative service where your expertise will be recognised and valued.
