Summary

Provide high-quality, safe and effective consultant-led care to patients on the General Medical Ward. Take responsibility for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of patients under General Medicine. Lead consultant ward rounds and provide timely senior clinical decision-making. Provide clinical leadership and support to the multidisciplinary team. Supervise, support and provide guidance to resident doctors and other clinical staff. Ensure appropriate investigation, treatment and escalation of acutely unwell or deteriorating patients. Promote effective communication with patients, relatives and carers, ensuring they are appropriately informed and involved in decisions about their care. Coordinate safe and timely discharge planning and ensure appropriate follow-up arrangements are in place. Work collaboratively with colleagues across hospital specialties and community services where required. Maintain high standards of clinical documentation, communication and handover. Contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. Support teaching, training and professional development of junior medical staff and the wider team. Ensure practice is consistent with relevant professional standards, clinical guidelines and local policies.
