Summary

Darlington Borough Councilandrsquo;s Vehicle Maintenance Team is seeking to recruit a skilled and motivated individual and welcomes applications from candidates for either an HGV Technician or MOT Tester/Mechanic position.

Both roles offer a varied workload within a busy workshop environment, supporting the inspection, maintenance, servicing, and repair of the Councilandrsquo;s fleet, plant, and customer vehicles to ensure they remain safe, compliant, and operational.

If appointed as an HGV Technician

You will support the delivery of a comprehensive maintenance and servicing function for the Councilandrsquo;s vehicles and plant, ensuring compliance with current legislation and, where required, the Councilandrsquo;s Operatorandrsquo;s Licence. The role will also involve the inspection, servicing, and repair of vehicles for external organisations and members of the public.

You should have approximately three yearsandrsquo; experience as an HGV Technician and be skilled in working on diesel and petrol engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems. Experience of light goods vehicles is also desirable. A valid HGV driving licence with a minimum Category C entitlement is required.

The salary for the HGV Technician is andpound;35,396 per annum and the role is pending a pay review.

If appointed as an MOT Tester / Mechanic

You will be responsible for carrying out MOT inspections in line with DVSA standards, including Class IV and VII testing, as well as Hackney Carriage and Private Hire vehicle inspections. You will also contribute to the delivery of a high-quality repair and maintenance service for vehicles and equipment used by both internal and external customers.

A DVSA Nominated Tester Certificate (Classes IV and VII) is essential, along with a full, valid driving licence and a City andamp; Guilds or NVQ Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in Motor Vehicle Technology or a related subject.

The salary for the MOT Tester / Mechanic is andpound;32,640 per annum and the role is pending a pay review.andnbsp;

The role is based on a 37 hour working week, worked on a rotating shift pattern of 7:00am to 3:00pm one week and 10:00am to 6:00pm the next.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the safe and compliant operation of the Councilandrsquo;s fleet, as well as support services for external customers and the wider community.
