Families First Partnership Programme is enabling us to do just that! Through this work, we will create a system that delivers better experiences, stronger relationships, and lasting change where families feel supported, professionals feel empowered, and children thrive. This is our moment to make it happen. Let’s do it together.
Timely and effective family help is central to Families First, and we are implementing our district family help team model. Working within Oldham Council’s Family Help service, you will be an outstanding family worker with strong knowledge of good practice in family help and experience of delivering high-quality targeted family help to children and families including leading multi-agency teams around the family. You may also have experience of developing and leading a team.
Key Responsibilities:
The focus of the job is to support and deputise for the district Family Help Team Manager. This will involve:
- Deputising for the Team Manager, managing some members of the team, leading some allocation meetings, supervision of casework and oversight of performance.
- Managing and motivating members of the team as allocated, supervising casework and providing support and challenge in order to develop family help practice and achieve positive outcomes for children and families.
- Allocating referrals within the team and to the commissioned provider, ensuring these are appropriate to the needs of children and families and the skills and experience of staff.
- Assisting the Team Manager in managing and developing the team, including through contributing to recruitment and induction, appraisals, professional development, management of performance and any disciplinary or grievance processes.
- Providing formal and informal, individual and group supervision, keeping accurate records and producing reports as required.
- Working with the manager, providing leadership to the team, modelling the corporate values and the Children’s Social Care and Early Help strengths-based approach to practice, ensuring a focus on the delivery of positive outcomes for children and families.
Key Requirements:
To succeed in this role, you will need as a minimum:
- Extensive experience of working within a service delivering support to families who have complex lives which may include mental health, offending, substance misuse, domestic abuse and may be resistant to service involvement.
- Substantial experience of assessing and analysing the needs of children and families and implementing programmes of support to address these.
- Substantial experience of leading multi-agency work and a strong knowledge base of understanding how teams are motivated, including the establishment of a positive performance culture.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and therefore expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment
