Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Head of Coordination & Design to lead the design and technical coordination function across a portfolio of construction projects.
The role will be responsible for ensuring all design disciplines are fully coordinated, technically compliant, commercially considered and deliverable on site. The successful candidate will provide senior technical leadership to internal teams, consultants, contractors and key stakeholders from pre-construction through to completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and technical coordination function across multiple projects
- Manage and coordinate architects, engineers, MEP consultants and specialist designers
- Ensure architectural, structural, MEP and subcontractor designs are fully coordinated
- Lead design reviews and resolve technical, interface and buildability issues
- Ensure designs comply with UK Building Regulations, relevant legislation and technical standards
- Monitor design programmes, information release schedules and consultant performance
- Review drawings, specifications and technical submissions
- Identify and manage design and construction risk
- Support value engineering while maintaining quality, compliance and functionality
- Work closely with commercial, operational and construction teams
- Chair design coordination meetings and ensure actions are completed
- Develop and maintain design standards, procedures and quality assurance processes
- Provide senior technical advice and support across the business
- Lead, mentor and develop the design and coordination team.
Essential Professional Qualification
Candidates must hold at least one of the following:
MCIAT or FCIAT - Chartered Architectural Technologist with CIAT
ARB Registered Architect
MCIOB or FCIOB - Chartered Institute of Building
MRICS or FRICS - Chartered Building Surveyor
Essential Experience
- Significant senior-level design, technical or construction experience.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary design teams.
- Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations and construction legislation.
- Experience managing design from pre-construction through to completion.
- Strong understanding of buildability, technical detailing and design risk.
- Experience coordinating architectural, structural, MEP and specialist design.
- Strong consultant and stakeholder management experience.
- Ability to review and challenge technical information and resolve complex design issues.
- Strong leadership, commercial awareness and communication skills.
Desirable
- Design & Build experience.
- Building Safety Act knowledge.
- BIM/Revit/Navisworks experience.
- Major residential, commercial or mixed-use project experience.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
