Summary

We're looking for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Barking & Dagenham, working with pupils who have a range of additional educational, communication and social-emotional needs.

You'll work alongside teachers and specialist professionals to provide practical, individualised support throughout the school day.

Depending on the pupils you're working with, you may:

- Provide focused 1:1 or small-group support.

- Adapt activities to make learning more accessible.

- Break instructions into manageable steps.

- Support communication and social interaction.

- Help pupils manage emotions and regulate their behaviour.

- Use positive behaviour-support strategies.

- Encourage participation without creating dependence on adult support.

- Help pupils manage routines and transitions.

- Work towards targets within individual support plans and EHCPs.

- Monitor progress and share observations with teachers and other professionals.

You'll also work closely with the wider team around each pupil, which may include the SENCO, therapists, pastoral staff and families.

Good SEND support isn't about doing everything for a pupil.

It's about giving them enough support to succeed and then gradually helping them do more for themselves.

We're looking for someone who can build trusting relationships while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations.

You'll ideally have:

- At least one year's experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant or in a similar support role.

- Experience working with children or young people with additional needs.

- Confidence supporting behaviour and emotional regulation.

- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

- The ability to remain calm and adapt when something isn't working.

- A genuine commitment to inclusive education.

A Teaching Assistant qualification, NVQ or equivalent would be beneficial, although relevant practical experience is equally important.

This is a full-time opportunity paying £109-£125 per day, offering the chance to develop your experience while working alongside education and SEND professionals.

For someone considering a longer-term career in SEND, teaching, pastoral support, behaviour support, therapy or wider education, the experience you gain could be invaluable.

And for an established SEN Teaching Assistant, it's an opportunity to bring your existing skills to a new school and continue developing your specialist knowledge.

If you're looking for your next SEN Teaching Assistant role in Barking & Dagenham and understand that every pupil needs something slightly different from the adults supporting them, we'd like to hear from you.

Submit your CV today to find out more about the role.

This vacancy is advertised on Senploy - the specialist education and SEND job board.
