Your new company
You will be joining a principal and family-owned civil engineering contractor based in Birmingham operating within the rail industry. Working on major long-term programmes and framework agreements, this well-established and multi-accredited contractor plays a key role in enhancing critical infrastructure, supporting the delivery of large-scale rail, transport and urban connectivity improvements, delivering projects valued between £500k - £2m. They offer a strong pipeline of work for at least the next 6 years as well as excellent opportunities for career progression and professional development. As part of their continued growth, they are actively seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly successful and growing principal contractor with a family-like feel.
This is a full-time permanent position based out of their Birmingham office with hybrid working.
Your new role
As Quantity Surveyor, you will provide commercial support across a portfolio of civil engineering and infrastructure projects, ensuring contractual compliance, cost control and commercial performance are maintained throughout the project lifecycle. You will work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, clients, subcontractors and suppliers to deliver successful project outcomes.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing the commercial aspects of multiple civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
- Preparing, submitting and agreeing interim valuations and applications for payment.
- Identifying, pricing and negotiating variations and compensation events.
- Developing and managing project budgets, cost plans and cash flow forecasts.
- Monitoring project costs, profitability and overall commercial performance.
- Procuring subcontractors and suppliers, analysing quotations and negotiating orders.
- Managing subcontract agreements, valuations and final accounts.
- Producing monthly Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) reports.
- Administering client and subcontractor final accounts.
- Ensuring compliance with NEC contract conditions.
- Identifying commercial risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
- Building strong relationships with clients, consultants and supply chain partners.
- Supporting estimating and tendering activities when required.
What you'll need to succeed
In order to be successful, you will bring:
- Degree/HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying (or similar qualification) or experience equivalent
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or infrastructure projects
- Sound understanding of NEC forms of contract
- Excellent commercial awareness, negotiation skills and financial management capabilities
- Strong communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills
- Full UK driving licence.
