Summary

Job title: Personal Assistant

Location: Aberystwyth (Work to be undertaken at this location)

Hours of work: 10 hours per week evening and weekends

Rate of Pay: £15.00 per hour

Job Overview

This Personal Assistant role is to support a 19-year-old young man in the Aberystwyth area. He is a university student with Asperger’s syndrome and is high functioning. He does not require support with personal care, daily routines, or structured activities, but would benefit from support to access services, social opportunities, and the wider community.

The role will focus on encouraging independence, confidence, and community inclusion. Support may include helping him to explore new places, attend community activities, access local services, and build confidence in social situations. Clear communication, reassurance, and patience will be important, particularly when he is trying something new or unfamiliar.

Hours of Work

There are 10 hours available. These hours may be used flexibly and, where agreed in advance, may be banked to allow for longer trips, longer days out, or activities further afield.

During university term time, hours are likely to be during evenings or weekends. More flexible hours may be available during holiday periods. Working times will be agreed in advance with the young man.

Main Duties

• Support the young man to access services, social activities, and community facilities.

• Encourage independence, confidence, and inclusion within the wider community.

• Support him to attend activities such as social clubs, the gym, pool hall, cinema, Lego events, sports activities, and other community opportunities.

• Provide reassurance and patient support in new environments or unfamiliar situations.

• Support him to plan and agree activities in advance, while recognising that he does not require a fixed routine or structured programme of support.

• Where appropriate, support him to develop confidence accessing further places when driving.

• Prompt him to use his asthma inhaler before exercise or on hotter days, if needed. He self-administers his medication.

About me

I am a young man who enjoys Lego, sports, pool, going to the gym, football, cinema, playing pool, comedy, AI, computers, IT, and gaming. It would be advantageous if the Personal Assistant has similar interests, knowledge, or experience in these areas.

He is a very humorous young man who enjoys conversation and would benefit from a Personal Assistant who is chatty, outgoing, friendly, and able to encourage social interaction. He can sometimes be quiet in nature and may experience social anxiety, so a calm, patient, and reassuring approach will also be important.
