Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly organised Quality Manager to join the expanding KHP Cancer Biobank in continuing to deliver a high-quality research service.

You'll be joining a recent UKAS ISO 20387:2018 Biobanking accredited facility with extensive sample collections and over twenty directly employed Biobank staff.

The role offers a variety of work including administering the quality management system, undertaking audits, overseeing completion of staff training, document management and some health and safety requirements.

You will have opportunity to lead on new initiatives to ensure compliance with UKAS accreditation and will report directly to the Biobank Operational Committee.

This is a specialized post, requiring a high level of knowledge relating to national and international legislation, regulations, management and conduct of biobanking. The post holder will implement and maintain quality systems to ISO accreditation standards and ensure compliance with Trust policy, regarding non-compliance and CAPA reports. Nurturing a team of over 20 staff, with varying levels of experience to maintain the required standards requires excellent communication, organisation and deployment skills.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust comprises five of the UK’s best known hospitals – Guy’s, St Thomas’, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield – as well as community services in Lambeth and Southwark, all with a long history of high quality care, clinical excellence, research and innovation.

We are among the UK’s busiest, most successful foundation trusts. We provide specialist care for patients including heart and lung, cancer and renal services as well as a full range of local hospital and community services for people in Lambeth and Southwark.

King’s Health Partners Cancer Biobank has supported translational cancer research at a national level since the 1970’s. During that time, the Biobank has accrued samples from more than 51,000 patients and supplied significant numbers of samples to researchers worldwide. We have recently received approval from UKAS for ISO20387:2018 accreditation.

The Biobank supports a significant number of programmes and projects led by the Trust and King’s College London School of Cancer and Pharmaceutical Sciences. This includes an extensive cancer organoid generation programme and working with other academic and commercial partners. With a team of more than 20 dedicated personnel, the Biobank specialist skills and facilities are increasingly utilised for translational cancer research and clinical trial purposes.
