THE ROLE
No two days in care are exactly the same.
As a Charge Nurse, you will provide clinical leadership and day-to-day management within your area of the home on a 24- hour basis. You will ensure that residents receive safe, effective and person-centred care while supporting and developing the nursing and care team.
This will include:
- Providing clinical leadership and acting as a positive role model for the nursing and care team
- Overseeing the assessment, planning, delivery and review of residents’ care to ensure consistently high clinical standards
- Managing staffing, workload and skill mix, delegating appropriately and providing clinical supervision and guidance
- Supporting with employee relations matters, including performance, capability, disciplinary and grievance processes where required
- Monitoring staffing records, rotas, sickness absence, annual leave and other relevant HR information
- Leading on clinical audit, quality improvement, risk management and infection prevention and control
- Building positive relationships with residents and families and working collaboratively with GPs, Social Work, the Care Inspectorate and other health and social care professionals
- Working closely with the Care Home Manager and deputising where required to support the effective operation of the home
- Ensuring practice remains in line with the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) Code, Health and Social Care Standards, Care Inspectorate requirements and Bandrum’s policies and procedures
There will also be difficult days as working in care can involve supporting residents and families through challenging and emotional situations. You will always have colleagues around you, and teamwork is an important part of how we provide care.
ABOUT YOU
Strong clinical knowledge is essential, alongside your ability to lead and support others.
We are looking for a Charge Nurse who is:
- Compassionate, respectful and person-centred
- A confident and approachable clinical leader
- Comfortable making autonomous clinical decisions
- Able to remain calm and organised in complex or challenging situations
- Skilled in supporting, developing and addressing performance or practice concerns within the team
- A strong communicator who can work effectively with residents, families and multidisciplinary teams
- Confident in managing complaints, incidents and sensitive situations
- Commercially aware, resource-conscious and committed to maintaining high professional and clinical standards
- Motivated to support their own development and that of the wider team
