MSS Infrastructure are currently looking for a
Geotechnical Engineer to join our team, based within the
Midlands with travel required to various projects.
The role will focus on
ground investigation works across civils and rail projects. We are open to applications from experienced engineers as well as
graduate-level candidates with the relevant degree and a strong interest in developing their career.
For the right candidate, we can support the development of rail experience and relevant
Sentinel/rail qualifications.
About the Role
You will support ground investigation and geotechnical activities across a range of major infrastructure projects, working alongside engineers and site teams to ensure investigations are completed safely, accurately and efficiently.
The role offers
50-60 hours per week, with regular travel from the Midlands to project locations. This is initially a temporary position, with
ongoing long-term work available for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with and undertake ground investigation works across civils and rail projects.
- Carry out site investigations and ground condition assessments.
- Collect, record and interpret geotechnical and ground investigation data.
- Support borehole investigations, trial pits and ground sampling.
- Monitor and record ground conditions encountered during investigations.
- Carry out site measurements, logging and data collection.
- Assist with ground investigation reports and technical documentation.
- Read and work from engineering drawings and specifications.
- Liaise with Site Engineers, Project Engineers, Geotechnical Engineers and subcontractors.
- Maintain accurate site records and daily reports.
- Identify and report ground conditions, hazards or issues.
- Follow RAMS, permits and project-specific health and safety procedures.
- Work safely around plant, excavations and other construction activities.
- Travel to different project locations as required.
Requirements
- Ground investigation or geotechnical experience desirable.
- Good understanding of civil engineering and geotechnical principles.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and technical information.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Good attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
- Willingness to travel to different project locations.
- Full UK driving licence desirable.
- Previous rail experience is advantageous but
- Sentinel certification/rail competencies advantageous but can be developed.
Degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering - essential.
Graduate-level candidates will be considered.

Rail Training & Development
Candidates without previous rail experience will be considered. For the successful candidate,
MSS Infrastructure can support relevant rail training and development, including progression towards a
Sentinel card, subject to project requirements.
