The post holder will participate in a Tier 2 rota at SJUH and be involved in covering all aspects of inpatient care including long day ward cover and night shifts. In addition there will allocated time within this role to work alongside a large MDT involved in delivering the service improvements needed as we seek LNU accreditation. The successful candidate with lead workstreams and feed back to senior members of the management team within the Trust and the Regional ODN. Some additional clinical shifts will be offered in intensive care at LGI though these will be on an ad-hoc basis and organised following discussion with the successful candidate. In addition they will be expected to lead service development projects with oversight from the clinical lead. Applicants should have established skills in Paediatrics and Neonatal Medicine and experience in attendance at deliveries and working on a Tier 2 rota within the NHS. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential. Why you should join our Team The Leeds Regional Neonatal Service comprises one level 3 unit (NICU) at LGI and a level 1 unit (SCBU) at SJUH, each with a transitional care unit and attached to a busy delivery suite. The neonatal service is one of the busiest in the country with 1700 admissions per year, providing 4000 intensive care days and a further 4000 high dependency care days per year. There are approximately 10,000 deliveries across the two sites. These posts are part of a workforce expansion to facilitate the uplift of SJUH to a Level 2 (LNU) neonatal unit. Our St James’s NNU where this job is based has 18 cots with a stabilisation space for babies unexpectedly requiring intensive care. There is a transitional care ward (13 beds) attached which admits infants of 33 weeks gestational age and above. Babies requiring intensive care are transferred to the LGI unit which cares for the full range of medical, surgical and cardiac neonatal intensive care. There are 24 cots on NNU including 13 ICU and 10 surgical. There is a fully integrated specialist neonatal surgical service with joint care provided by medical and surgical consultants in the intensive and high dependency areas. The Leeds Neonatal service is award winning and leading the field in family integrated care, infection prevention and benefits from a well-established Outreach Service. The service is also supported by a comprehensive AHP team. The Neonatal Service is also very active in its participation in research and is part of a number of large national trials. What you will bring to the role Working on the SJUH clinical rota to provide medical cover to the special care unit and HDU cots once opened. To work clinically in ICU/HDU at LGI on an ad hoc basis Work alongside an MDT including consultants, matrons, lead nurses and ANNPs to deliver changes needed in order to meet criteria for LNU accreditation Feeding back to senior medical and nursing staff regarding progress, and presenting at CSU/ODN meetings Involvement in quality improvement in LCH Please see the attached job description for further information about this vacancy.
