Long Term Futures is recruiting a resilient and compassionate Behaviour Mentor for a supportive secondary school in Camden.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about helping young people overcome behavioural, emotional and social barriers to learning. You will work across Key Stages 3 and 4, providing targeted support to students who may struggle with engagement, emotional regulation, attendance or positive classroom behaviour.
Working closely with teachers, pastoral leaders, the SENCO and other support staff, you will build trusted professional relationships with pupils and help them develop the confidence, resilience and strategies needed to succeed in school.
Your Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with behavioural, emotional or social needs.
- Support pupils during lessons and help them remain focused, engaged and ready to learn.
- Deliver targeted interventions focused on behaviour, emotional regulation, confidence and resilience.
- Build consistent and positive relationships with students who may be at risk of disengagement or exclusion.
- Help pupils understand the impact of their behaviour and develop more positive coping strategies.
- Use de-escalation and restorative approaches to manage challenging situations calmly.
- Support students during transitions, breaktimes and other potentially challenging periods of the school day.
- Reinforce school expectations, routines and boundaries in a fair and consistent manner.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, the SENCO and families where appropriate.
- Monitor students' engagement, behaviour and progress, providing useful feedback to relevant staff.
- Contribute to individual behaviour plans, pastoral programmes and Education, Health and Care Plans where required.
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive and purposeful learning environment throughout the school.
About You
We would like to hear from applicants who:
- Have worked as a Behaviour Mentor, Pastoral Mentor, Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Youth Worker or in a comparable role.
- Ideally have experience supporting secondary-aged pupils.
- Can build positive relationships while maintaining clear and consistent professional boundaries.
- Understand the factors that can contribute to challenging behaviour and disengagement from education.
- Are calm, resilient and confident when responding to difficult situations.
- Have strong communication, teamwork and conflict-resolution skills.
- Are patient, adaptable and committed to helping young people make positive choices.
- Have a genuine interest in pastoral care, behaviour support and improving educational outcomes.
- Hold an enhanced DBS registered with the Update Service or are willing to apply for one.
