Summary
To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients, as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team. The duties will include all tasks normally undertaken by an experienced RGN and any additional roles agreed between the nurse and the doctors as appropriate, having regard to current training. Job responsibilities: Assist in or perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nurses and GPs Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations Cytology Wound care / ulcer care/Doppler Removal of Sutures New Patient Medicals/Urinalysis Travel vaccinations ECGs Venepuncture Hypertension Management Ear syringing Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate being examined by another clinician Assisting GPs with coil fittings Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate Other tasks to include: Clean and sterilise equipment using autoclave monitoring autoclave Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms Participation in administrative systems in the Practice A duty to advise senior nurses of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasks Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post Able to recognise when there is a need to refer complex patients. Demonstrate an understanding of cold chain, vaccine storage, administration and related theory and ensure best practice is maintained. Maintain accurate and contemporaneous electronic patient records. Maintain knowledge and skills with regard to travel health through personal and professional development. Attend annual updates and mandatory training as required. Maintain professional registration and work within the individuals scope of practice according to the Nursing and Midwifery Councils Code of Conduct. Act in a manner that safeguards children and/or vulnerable adults as applicable to the role. Highlight any gaps in knowledge/training needs to their line manager to allow them the opportunity to offer support in order to fulfil the duties of this post. Remain up-to-date with clinical guidelines to ensure that practice remains evidence based. Undertake telephone advice calls providing evidence based travel advice.
