Job Objectives and ResponsibilitiesSupport the safe and effective operation of the GSK Permit to Work system.

Ensure all maintenance, engineering, facilities and contractor activities are supported by appropriate permits, risk assessments, method statements and supporting documentation.

Review permit applications to ensure compliance with site standards before escalation for approval.

Maintain accurate permit records and ensure permit documentation is complete, current and auditable.

Provide support and guidance to contractors and Mitie teams regarding permit requirements and site expectations.

Conduct routine permit assurance checks and workplace inspections to verify compliance with permit conditions.

Maintain a visible presence within operational areas through regular Gemba walks and field engagement.

Identify, escalate and support resolution of safety, compliance and permit-related concerns.

Support contractor management processes, ensuring contractors arrive prepared with appropriate documentation and approvals.

Monitor active permits and ensure timely closure, suspension, extension and record retention activities.

Support site audits, inspections and compliance reviews.

Assist with continuous improvement initiatives relating to contractor management, permit compliance and safety performance.

Promote a positive safety culture that aligns with both Mitie and GSK values and expectations.

Main Duties

-Administer and maintain Permit to Work records and registers.

-Review permit documentation and supporting RAMS.

-Verify training, competency and authorisation requirements where applicable.

-Coordinate communication between contractors, operational teams and permit issuers.

-Carry out regular Gemba walks and permit assurance observations.

-Ensure permit conditions are being followed in the field.

-Support isolation verification and high-risk work controls where authorised.

-Escalate permit breaches and unsafe conditions.

-Support contractor onboarding and site access processes.

-Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks and operational reviews.

-Assist in preparation for internal and external audits.

-Produce permit compliance reports and KPI data as required.

-Support wider compliance and operational activities across the Mitie account.

-Flexibility to support business needs which may include weekend working, early mornings and/or late evenings.

Person SpecificationEssential Experience & Knowledge

-Experience working within a safety-critical, technical, engineering, facilities management, manufacturing or pharmaceutical environment.

-Understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.

-Experience managing documentation and compliance records.

-Knowledge of contractor control processes.

-Understanding of risk assessments and safe systems of work.

-Experience engaging with multiple stakeholders.

Desirable Experience & Knowledge

-Experience working within a Permit to Work system.

Job Objectives and ResponsibilitiesProvide dedicated Permit to Work support for the QF02 Project, ensuring all project activities are planned, authorised and executed in accordance with GSK Permit to Work requirements, site safety standards and regulatory obligations.

Act as an authorised Permit Issuer for project-related activities including maintenance, construction, engineering and contractor works.

Ensure all high-risk activities are appropriately controlled through effective permit review, field verification and ongoing assurance.

Support contractors and project teams in understanding permit requirements, safe systems of work and GSK site expectations.

Maintain a strong and visible Gemba presence within project work areas, undertaking regular field assurance activities and safety engagements.

Review, authorise and issue permits in accordance with the site Permit to Work procedure.

Ensure Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), isolations, certificates and supporting documentation are suitable and sufficient prior to permit issuance.

Monitor active permits and coordinate permit suspension, extension and closure activities where required.

Support site shutdowns, maintenance campaigns and project milestones requiring increased permit coverage.

Provide resilience and operational support to the wider Permit to Work Team during periods of increased workload, planned shutdowns, annual leave and business-critical activities.

Promote a positive safety culture through visible leadership and proactive engagement with contractors, Mitie colleagues and GSK stakeholders.

Participate in audits, inspections, investigations and continuous improvement initiatives relating to permit compliance and contractor management.

Main Duties

-Issue and manage permits in accordance with GSK Permit to Work procedures.

-Undertake permit reviews and field verification prior to work commencement.

-Verify Risk Assessments, Method Statements and supporting documentation.

-Conduct Gemba walks and workplace assurance inspections.

-Monitor compliance with permit controls during work execution.

-Engage with contractors to verify understanding of permit conditions.

Role SummaryThis is a dedicated 2-year fixed term position supporting the QF02 Project, providing permit issuance, compliance assurance and contractor engagement. The role will work closely with the established Permit to Work Team and is expected to provide additional permit office support and resilience during periods of increased site activity, project peaks, shutdowns and resource gaps, ensuring consistent delivery of GSK's high standards of safety, quality and compliance.
