Highfields College is seeking a dedicated and proactive Specialist Mentor - Attendance and Outreach Officer to join our team.

In this vital role, you will provide a comprehensive, high-quality outreach and support service to the school in our drive to improve overall school attendance. You will play a key role in facilitating the educational partnership between home, school, and pupils through support, liaison, and negotiation.

Working closely with the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Designated Safeguarding Lead, and wider pastoral team, you will assess attendance issues proactively and determine appropriate interventions to support our pupils and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Outreach & Visits: Coordinate, plan, and carry out home visits (including cold calling, lone visits, and joint visits).
  • Caseload Management: In liaison with the Pastoral Manager (Emotional Well-Being), effectively manage a caseloadincluding Looked After Children (LAC)ensuring PEP documentation and casework are accurately prepared to support reviews or legal sanctions.
  • Pupil & Family Support: Support parents and carers of pupils accessing Alternative Provision, assist during transition periods to/from partner schools, and work directly with pupils using attendance checks and action plans.
  • Attendance Campaigns & Initiatives: Work alongside the Attendance Lead to organize and participate in attendance initiatives, reward assemblies, Open Evenings, and Parents' Evenings.
  • School Administration & Procedures: Administer registration procedures in line with statutory requirements, maintain pupil reports, and provide attendance data updates for staff.
  • Wider School Support: Engage with parents at key points during the school day, assist with supervision during non-teaching times, support school events/trips, and drive the school minibus when required (training can be arranged).

  • Is reliable and demonstrates an exemplary attendance record in their own employment history.
  • Demonstrates initiative and excellent time-management skills to organise their workload and meet tight deadlines.
  • Is a strong team player with excellent communication skills to build positive relationships with pupils, parents/carers, staff, and outside agencies.
  • Is committed to actively promoting equal opportunities and delivering services accessible to the diverse needs of our service users.
  • Holds a strong commitment to safeguarding, child protection, and pupil well-being.
  • Is flexible, adaptable, and willing to contribute to the overall ethos, work, and aims of Highfields College.
