Summary

The Senior Staff Nurse is responsible for the assessment of care needs of patients, planning programmes of care, implementation and evaluation of these programmes without direct supervision. They are expected to; take charge of the ward and supervise junior members of staff provide clinical guidance to colleagues in disease identification and management, and relevant interventions for the clinical speciality work independently/autonomously without direct supervision and are accountable for their own actions take on additional responsibility, such as a link nurse role They ensure the safety and wellbeing of patients and always work in a manner that promotes dignity and respect through the adoption of person-centred care principles. They demonstrate commitment to quality patient care through effective leadership and team working.
