secondary school in Barnet that is seeking an enthusiastic and academically strong
Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate looking to gain valuable classroom experience while using their STEM knowledge to support students across
Key Stages 3 and 4.
The Role
As a Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside experienced teachers to support students in STEM subjects and help create an engaging and focused learning environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Supporting teachers during
Science, Maths, Computing and STEM-related lessons.
• Providing
1:1 and small-group academic support.
• Helping students understand challenging concepts and develop their subject knowledge.
• Supporting practical activities, experiments and classroom learning.
• Assisting with lesson preparation and STEM resources.
• Supporting students with revision, homework and exam preparation.
• Helping pupils develop confidence, problem-solving skills and independent learning habits.
• Supporting positive behaviour and maintaining high classroom expectations.
• Monitoring student engagement and contributing to progress tracking.
• Providing additional support to students who may have different learning needs.
• Building positive relationships with students and encouraging their interest in STEM.
Candidate Profile
The ideal Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant will have:
• A
degree in a STEM-related subject, with a
2:1 or above preferred.
• Strong academic knowledge and genuine enthusiasm for STEM.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Confidence working with secondary-age students.
• The ability to explain complex ideas clearly and simply.
• A patient, proactive and resilient approach.
• A genuine interest in education and supporting young people.
• Previous experience in
tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work or classroom support is desirable but not essential.
