Summary

PCFT is delighted to advertise this role of Bank Mental Health Chaplain to support our multi-faith chaplaincy team. We deliver an inpatient service across five boroughs of Greater Manchester - Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, and Tameside and Glossop

We are seeking to appoint Trust-wide, Band 6 Mental Health Chaplains to our Multi-Faith Chaplaincy Team Bank, to support the team in the provision of spiritual, religious and pastoral care to service users, patients, carers and colleagues. We are looking for a person with considerable pastoral skills, a commitment to multi-faith working, a proven ability to minister to people of any faith or none, and the ability to work alongside a variety of healthcare professionals in a multidisciplinary team.

Successful candidates will be prepared to travel across the Trust to Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, and Tameside and Glossop to offer chaplaincy support.

This is an opportunity for chaplains who have existing experience in mental health chaplaincy and/or can demonstrate working in a mental health context to deliver spiritual, religious and pastoral care.

This post is open to applicants who are registered with CPCPC (formerly UKHBC).

Successful candidates will need to be in good standing with their faith community and appropriately authorised by their accrediting body.

To identify and make provision as part of the chaplaincy team for the pastoral, emotional, spiritual, and religious needs of patients, service users, carers, and staff irrespective of religion or beliefs.

To work effectively (and often independently) in situations in which individuals suffer from challenging and debilitating mental and emotional distress.

· To work with the head of chaplaincy and all members of the chaplaincy team to provide specialist pastoral, emotional, spiritual, and religious care to service users, carers, and staff within the context of a mental health inpatient setting.

· To attend and contribute to chaplaincy team meetings and supervision as required

· According to one’s own faith or belief ‘good standing’, to be a resource for other team members, and colleagues on cultural, or religious or spiritual matters as requested.

For our patients and service users

· To provide compassionate support, pastoral care, and encouragement for patients and service users, referring whenever necessary to the ward staff and/or the head of chaplaincy for further support and signposting as appropriate

· To visit PCFT wards, departments, and units, as required.

· Where appropriate, and as required, to play a part in multidisciplinary meetings, providing an advocacy role on behalf of the patient/service user/carer if requested and appropriate to do so.

To the organisation, professional bodies, faith and belief endorsing bodies

· To provide compassionate support, pastoral care, and encouragement for all colleagues, referring whenever necessary to the head of chaplaincy for further support and signposting as appropriate

· To be available as required to support the head of chaplaincy in providing religious or cultural advice to the Trust.

· To demonstrate professional practice to band 6 level, in accordance with the CPCPC Spiritual Care Competences for Healthcare Chaplains.

· To maintain up to date understanding, knowledge, and skill set for chaplaincy in healthcare, and continuing professional development in line with CPCPC

· To maintain a spiritual discipline and be able to demonstrate good standing with the relevant endorsing faith and/or belief organisation.

These duties do not provide a full summary of the chaplain’s role. They will be expected to be proactive, bringing their own skills and abilities to the team.
