Using GDD we will then determine if you will be paid an additional allowance, on top of your basic salary. Job Description:

As a senior interaction designer, you will design accessible and impactful services and products for HMCTS. You’ll be a part of advancing our approach, helping to grow our design culture, coaching junior and mid-weight members of the team, and partnering with and inspiring our stakeholders.

The Digital Delivery team at HMCTS is redesigning and rebuilding our courts and tribunal services around the needs of our users – ensuring our services are accessible, easy to use, digital (where necessary and appropriate) and well supported for all users.

Within Digital Delivery, the User-Centred Design team works with HMCTS projects and programmes to support our core design principle of being user-led in everything we do. As an interaction designer, you’ll work closely with user researchers, analysts and frontline staff to understand pain points for our internal and external users, then design, test and iterate consistent ways to fix these issues.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Interaction Designer, you will:

• Work with service managers and product owners to develop design concepts

• Have responsibility across complex services

• Help set direction and embed good practice within teams

• Make important decisions based on research and understand how this research impacts others

• Analyse and interpret user needs and business objectives in highly complex service areas

• Lead on design concepts that help reimagine how services can be delivered end-to-end

• Ensure services are designed with inclusivity and accessibility in mind

• Lead on design workshops and design sprints with the team, senior stakeholders and users

• Rapidly design and test digital prototypes with users

• Work across multiple projects and teams to ensure consistency and continuity between products and services that must work together

• Work with technical roles to promote an outcomes-led approach to designing services that consider technical feasibility and how to address technical challenges

• Develop and maintain design standards and a pattern library, ensuring patterns and components are consistent, accessible, and easy to use across our digital products and services.

• Train, mentor and line manage other designers

• Take a lead in growing and advancing our Design Community of Practice, including recruitment and onboarding new team members and developing design best practice.

• Contribute to shaping the structure of the design team and the roles required to enable the team to scale.

Skills & Experience:

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

• A track record in designing and developing workable prototypes in low, medium and high fidelity to meet user needs for digital services

• Experience working collaboratively in fast-paced agile teams

• To get to the heart of an issue quickly and clearly, demonstrating expert knowledge in an applied setting

• Knowledge of agile ways of working and user-centred interaction design

• To be comfortable working autonomously to help key stakeholders such as judges, operational leaders, service managers and programme directors understand the importance and value of a user-centred approach to designing services

• Excellent presentation skills with experience presenting prototypes and deliverables to business leads and stakeholders

• To keep up to date with the latest interaction design standards and practices, ensuring that our solutions respond accordingly
