Long Term Futures is recruiting a SEND Teaching Assistant to join an inclusive school in Southwark, South London, for an immediate start. This opportunity is open to unqualified candidates, with the school placing greater importance on your attitude, relevant experience and ability to build positive relationships with young people.
You may already have experience within a school, care setting, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring or another role supporting children and young people.
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with additional needs
- Support children with needs such as Autism (ASD), ADHD, SEMH and Speech & Language difficulties
- Help pupils engage with lessons and access learning at an appropriate level
- Support communication, social interaction and emotional regulation
- Encourage independence, confidence and positive relationships
- Follow individual strategies and targets outlined within EHCPs and support plans
- Use positive behaviour strategies and provide consistent boundaries
- Help pupils manage transitions and changes to routine
- Work alongside teaching and SEND staff to provide consistent support throughout the school day
- Monitor pupil engagement and communicate progress or concerns to relevant staff
- No formal Teaching Assistant qualification required
- Previous experience supporting children or young people is highly desirable
- SEND experience is advantageous but transferable experience will be considered
- Candidates from care, support work, youth work, mentoring, childcare or sports coaching backgrounds are encouraged to apply
- Patient, resilient and confident supporting pupils who may become dysregulated
- Able to build positive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries
- Proactive and willing to learn new SEND strategies
- Reliable and committed to a full-time, long-term position
