Summary

The post-holder will also have a role in helping to develop sexual health services, audit and possible research. There may also be opportunities to become involved with teaching medical students and junior doctors. History taking, examination, investigation and treatment of patients attending the Genitourinary Medicine department in line with clinic protocols. Supporting the department in the management of patients with HIV disease. Working in line with all Trust policies and procedures and the GU clinic guidelines. Keep up to date with clinic guidelines, good medical practice and safeguarding guidelines. Participation in the internal educational activities of the department, including teaching nurses, medical students, junior doctors and other visitors to the department, as appropriate. Participation in the external educational activities, including meetings and courses hosted by the department and other courses such as the BASHH STIF course, HIV Masterclass and DFSRH as appropriate. Participation in audit and clinical governance activities of the department. Providing medical support to non-medical staff of the clinic. Performance of administrative tasks relevant to Genitourinary Medicine (such as writing of letters to colleagues and patients, compiling GUMCAD data, development of clinic protocols). Clinical liaison with other hospital departments, general practitioners and other agencies as required. Participation in the developing clinical networks within Genitourinary Medicine in the West Midlands. Record all data during each consultation on electronic patient records Purpose of the role is to assist the department in managing patients who present with sexually transmitted infections or requesting contraception. Filling this post with fixed term sessions will help fill the gap till the incoming consultant starts after maternity leave in April 2027. When substantial time is worked over and above the expected amount, job plan and responsibilities will be reviewed and time off in lieu will be considered.
