Summary

Transport and Vehicle Operation Safely drive the Simulation Bus between approved deployment locations across partner organisations. Ensure all journeys are planned and undertaken in accordance with road traffic legislation, driver hours regulations, and organisational policies. Carry out routine pre-use vehicle checks (e.g. tyres, lights, fuel, safety systems) and report defects promptly. Ensure the bus is safely positioned at designated deployment sites in coordination with the Project Manager and hosting organisation. Support safe set-up and collection procedures at each location. Maintain cleanliness and basic operational readiness of the vehicle. Safety and Compliance Ensure the Simulation Bus is roadworthy prior to all movements. Report any vehicle faults, incidents, or safety concerns immediately through agreed escalation routes. Comply with all transport, driving, and organisational safety policies. Maintain a duty of care for the vehicle at all times, including when parked at external sites. Support safe access and egress arrangements at deployment locations. Operational Support Work collaboratively with the Simulation Bus Project Manager and Simulation Technician to support scheduled deployments. Assist with logistical planning where required, including arrival and departure timing. Respond flexibly to operational changes, delays, or urgent deployment needs. Support efficient turnaround between sites in line with the agreed schedule. Security and Site Awareness Ensure the Simulation Bus is appropriately secured when parked or stationed on site. Liaise with hosting organisations regarding safe parking and site access arrangements. Ensure the vehicle is not left in unsafe or unmonitored conditions. Report any security concerns or site-related risks immediately. Other Duties Comply with MPFT policies and procedures at all times. Participate in relevant training required for the role. Contribute to service improvement discussions where appropriate. Support a culture of safety, professionalism, and respect. Decision and Judgements The post holder operates within established transport procedures and NHS organisational policies. The role involves making day-to-day decisions regarding safe driving, route planning, and immediate vehicle safety. Complex operational or scheduling decisions are escalated to the Simulation Bus Project Manager. The post holder is not responsible for service development or content decisions. Communication and Relationships Communicate effectively with the Simulation Bus Project Manager, Simulation Technician, and hosting organisation contacts. Provide clear updates regarding vehicle status, arrival times, delays, or issues. Engage professionally with staff at all deployment sites. Maintain courteous and effective communication with partner organisations. Physical demands of the job Prolonged periods of driving across multiple locations. Moderate physical activity including vehicle checks, site positioning, and basic operational tasks. Occasional requirement to assist with setup or logistical positioning of the bus at deployment sites.
