Summary

The Children and Young Peoples Bladder and Bowel Nurse Specialist is responsible for delivering specialist community-based bladder and bowel care to children and young people with bladder, bowel, and continence conditions across Essex. The post holder will manage a specialist caseload, undertake comprehensive assessments, develop and evaluate treatment plans, deliver nurse-led clinics, and provide education and support to children, families, carers, schools, and healthcare professionals. The role also involves contributing to service development, quality improvement, clinical governance, workforce development, and the operational management of the service, working closely with the BCYP Operational Lead and Assistant Director to ensure a high-quality, evidence-based continence service. Main responsibilities include: Providing specialist assessment, treatment, and ongoing management of children and young people with continence, bladder, and bowel dysfunction. Managing a community caseload and developing, implementing, and evaluating individualised care plans. Delivering nurse-led clinics and providing specialist advice, education, and support to families, carers, schools, and multidisciplinary teams. Promoting continence, self-management, and independence whilst reducing unnecessary hospital admissions and attendances. Working collaboratively with primary care, acute services, education providers, social care, and other agencies to ensure integrated care pathways. Contributing to the development, implementation, and review of clinical pathways, policies, and evidence-based practice. Participating in clinical audit, governance activities, service evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives. Supporting the day-to-day operational delivery of the service, including performance monitoring, incident management, and complaint resolution. Maintaining accurate electronic patient records and activity data using clinical information systems. Providing leadership, mentorship, clinical supervision, and education to students and colleagues, including undertaking Practice Assessor and Practice Supervisor responsibilities. Supporting workforce development through training, appraisal, and continuous professional development activities. Ensuring compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, risk management, information governance, and NMC professional standards.
