Department for Transport is a high-profile department at the heart of UK government. We work with agencies and partners to support the transport network that helps businesses and gets people and goods travelling around the country. We plan and invest to make journeys better.

This role sits in the Estates function, reporting to the Head of Group TFM Contract and is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining DfT’s quality assurance strategy and ensuring compliance across the estate. The role ensures compliance with all relevant legislation, standards, and departmental policies while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence across all business areas. The role is also required to assist with leading compliance and assurance activity across the Group Total Facilities Management (TFM) contract as well as delivering contract management activities.

This will include working with senior leadership across the Estates team and the wider Department to lead and identify areas of improvement to ensure a safe, complaint and efficient working environment. The role holder will work closely all aspects of the Estates function and support with delivering contract management compliance and assurance for Estates related contracts.

The role holder will be a strong communicator who can work collaboratively across multiple functions to identify best practices, share learning and support the implementation of change if required. The role will require high levels of stakeholder engagement up to and including Director and CEO level.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to: 

  • Develop and maintain an Estates compliance and assurance framework aligned to current delivery and future strategy
  • Lead internal and external assurance activity, ensuring effective resolution of risks, issues and non-compliance
  • Monitor and report on quality and performance indicators, driving improvement plans where required
  • Support teams to implement robust quality control processes, documentation and best practice
  • Manage external audits and ensure timely, sustained delivery of all required actions
  • Lead compliance and assurance across the Estates contract management portfolio, addressing non-compliance with clear processes
  • Oversee risk, financial performance and value for money, including reporting, forecasting and escalation as needed
  • Build effective stakeholder relationships, contribute to strategic planning, support leadership activity and provide team management or deputising cover where required
