Summary
The Locum Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist will join the regional Children's Heart Unit at the University Hospital of Wales, providing specialist paediatric cardiology services for children and young people across Cardiff and Vale and the wider South and Mid Wales population. The post is a full-time maternity leave replacement and forms part of an established multidisciplinary team delivering tertiary paediatric cardiac care. The successful candidate will provide consultant-led care for patients with congenital and acquired heart disease, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and long-term management in both inpatient and outpatient settings. They will undertake general and specialist paediatric cardiology clinics, participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings, and contribute to the delivery of regional outreach services across Wales. The post holder will work closely with colleagues in paediatric cardiology, paediatric intensive care, neonatology, paediatric surgery and adult congenital heart disease, maintaining strong links with Bristol Children's Hospital and other tertiary cardiac centres. Attendance at joint regional case conferences and multidisciplinary meetings is expected. The consultant will provide clinical supervision, support and training for junior medical staff, medical students and other healthcare professionals, while contributing to postgraduate education and workforce development. They will participate in clinical audit, quality improvement, governance and research activities, ensuring care is delivered in accordance with national standards and best practice. The role includes participation in the 1:6 consultant on-call rota, supporting the management of urgent and complex paediatric cardiac cases and providing consultant cover for colleagues during periods of leave. The successful candidate will also contribute to service development, regional network working and the strategic advancement of paediatric cardiology services across Wales.
