Summary

The post holder will have responsibility for providing a high quality clerical and administrative support service to Ophthalmology Team. Ensure national and local targets are met and the hospitals SOP and processes are followed. The post holder will be responsible for validation and accurate recording on the Hospitals Medway system. Working under the direction of the Service Support Manager for Ophthalmology, the post holder will provide support with the day to day running of the service.

To acquire a good knowledge of the trusts recording processes, developing skills required to amend inaccurate data on the hospitals internal systems.

The post holder will be responsible for communicating with patients and their relatives regarding their appointments and admissions details both verbally and in writing.

To assist in capacity and demand exercises to identify constraints and areas for improvement.

Ensure effective tracking of patients along the care pathway and monitoring of the waiting time targets.

Provide cross cover within the team as and when required.

Work flexible hours as required by the needs of the service.  

To implement and adhere to changes to the service as required.

Assist in validating cancellations and DNA’s in accordance with Trust policy.

Provide a friendly, courteous and efficient point of contact to all service users.

Develop the cross skills required to cover other posts within the department as required by the service needs.

Develop excellent skills in relation to hospital IT systems to provide the necessary

knowledge and abilities to support the service in achieving the national and local targets.

Follow Trust escalation policy if patients require cancellation.

Ensure all paperwork is filed in the patient’s notes as per Trust policy.

 

 

North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust (NMUH) Ophthalmology department is a well-established department serving the population of Enfield and Haringey. Annually over 25,000 patients are seen through outpatients and 2200 as surgical cases, with outreach clinics at the Cheshunt Community Hospital.

The Ophthalmology department has seen considerable investment over the past few years in terms of resources. There are four consultant posts, an advanced nurse practitioner, additional staff grades, nursing and technician staff. 

 

To acquire a good knowledge of the trusts recording processes, developing skills required to amend inaccurate data on the hospitals internal systems.

The post holder will be responsible for communicating with patients and their relatives regarding their appointments and admissions details both verbally and in writing.

To assist in capacity and demand exercises to identify constraints and areas for improvement.

To assist in the validation and performance management of PTL monitoring, ensuring booking, data recording, clinic and elective admissions outcomes of the patient pathways are proactively managed in order to achieve 18 week targets. 

Be responsible to the Service Support Manager for providing a user focused administrative service to the Ophthalmology Team.

Ensure effective tracking of patients along the care pathway and monitoring of the waiting time targets.

 Provide cross cover within the team as and when required.

 Work flexible hours as required by the needs of the service.

 Ensure full compliance with the Trusts waiting list policy in line with the national 18-week target.

 To implement and adhere to changes to the service as required.

 Assist in validating cancellations and DNA’s in accordance with Trust policy.

 Provide a friendly, courteous and efficient point of contact to all service users.

Develop the cross skills required to cover other posts within the department as required by the service needs.

 Develop excellent skills in relation to hospital IT systems to provide the necessary
