A well-established and growing education organisation is seeking an experienced Payroll & Pensions Officer to join its finance team on an ongoing interim basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a complex payroll environment, supporting multiple sites and ensuring the accurate delivery of payroll and pension services across a large employee population. Your new role

As Payroll & Pensions Officer, you will act as the key point of contact between the organisation and its outsourced payroll provider, ensuring payroll information is processed accurately and on time. You will take ownership of payroll controls, pension administration, reconciliations, statutory compliance, and auto-enrolment responsibilities.

Key duties will include:

  • Liaising with an outsourced payroll provider and validating payroll data.
  • Processing payroll changes including starters, leavers, contractual amendments and payroll variations.
  • Producing payroll reports and carrying out comprehensive payroll checks.
  • Managing pension scheme administration across multiple occupational pension schemes.
  • Completing pension notifications, leaver forms and auto-enrolment activities.
  • Performing payroll and pension calculations, including maternity pay, adjustments and reconciliations.
  • Supporting month-end and year-end payroll and pension activities.
  • Providing guidance to managers and employees on payroll, pension and statutory matters.
  • Ensuring compliance with pension legislation, PAYE regulations and payroll best practice.
  • Developing and maintaining effective payroll and pension processes and controls.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Proven experience within payroll and pensions administration.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processes, legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Experience working with integrated HR and payroll systems.
  • Knowledge of auto-enrolment legislation and pension scheme administration.
  • Excellent reconciliation and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work to strict deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
  • The ability to work independently whilst building effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience within a large or multi-site organisation would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Teachers' Pensions, Local Government Pension Schemes or similar public sector pension arrangements would be beneficial.
