At Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, you’ll be part of a vibrant department that processes an impressive44,000 surgical and diagnostic requests annuallyacross two bustling sites Luton & Dunstable Hospital and Bedford Hospital.

Your primary base will be the Cellular Pathology Laboratory at Bedford Hospital, with occasional shifts at Luton & Dunstable, providing you with variety and broader experience. We pride ourselves on maintaining high standards, holding fullUKAS accreditation, and being fully compliant withHTA and MHRA regulations.

This role demands a solid general histology background, with hands-on knowledge of special techniques such as immunohistochemistry  and histology  automation giving you the opportunity to develop and showcase your specialized skills.

The post holder will support theday-to-day operational and technical activitiesof the Microbiology service, contributing to the safe, effective and efficient delivery of laboratory services.

The post holder will work alongside theSpecialist Biomedical Scientists (BMSs) and Senior BMSsto support the delivery of a high-quality, efficient and effective service through the establishedQuality Management System (QMS). They will assist with the implementation of service developments and changes as directed by the Laboratory Manager or senior staff, where delegated and in response to service requirements.

The post holder will be expected to adhere to and support the implementation ofdepartmental policies, procedures and quality standards, ensuring that the service remains compliant with currentUKAS requirements, relevant national and European legislation, and applicable professional and discipline-specific regulatory standards.

The post holder will also contribute to thetraining, development and competency assessment of scientific and support staff, as appropriate to their level of experience and delegated responsibilities.

The post holder will work as aHCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist (BMS), supporting the delivery of the department’s diagnostic services and contributing to the safe, effective and efficient operation of the laboratory.

The post holder will assist with theday-to-day operational and technical aspects of the service, ensuring that laboratory activities are undertaken in accordance with departmental procedures and professional standards.

Working under the direction of theSenior Laboratory Biomedical Scientists, the post holder will contribute to the delivery of a high-quality, efficient and effective service through the establishedQuality Management System (QMS). They will support the implementation of service developments and changes as directed by senior laboratory staff or the Laboratory Manager, where appropriately delegated and in response to service requirements.

The post holder will be expected to implement and adhere to relevantpolicies, procedures and quality standards, ensuring that the service complies with currentUKAS requirements, applicable national and European legislation, and discipline-specific professional and regulatory standards.

The post holder will also contribute to thetraining and development of scientific and support staff, as appropriate to their level of experience, competence and delegated responsibilities.
