Summary
Main Duties Leadership, Management & Governance Provide effective leadership and overall management of practice operations. Work closely with GP Partners to support strategic planning, business development and implementation of agreed priorities. Lead and coordinate management and staff meetings, ensuring actions are implemented and monitored. Maintain effective communication throughout the practice and foster a positive and collaborative working culture. Represent the practice at relevant external meetings and maintain productive relationships with NHS organisations and key stakeholders. Support service improvement initiatives and the ongoing development of the practice. People Management & Workforce Lead recruitment, onboarding and retention activities. Oversee performance management, appraisals, staff wellbeing, sickness absence management and workforce planning. Ensure mandatory training requirements are met and professional development opportunities are supported. Authorise leave and support effective staffing arrangements across the practice. Promote an inclusive, supportive and high-performing working environment. Work with outsourced HR providers to ensure employment matters are managed effectively and consistently. Quality, Compliance & Patient Experience Maintain oversight of governance, risk management and regulatory compliance, including CQC requirements. Lead the management of complaints, compliments, significant events and patient feedback. Ensure compliance with information governance, GDPR, safeguarding and data protection requirements. Maintain and regularly review practice policies, procedures and business continuity arrangements. Ensure effective systems are in place to monitor and improve patient experience and service quality. Promote a culture of learning, accountability and continuous improvement. Contractual, Financial & Performance Management Lead financial management, budgeting and resource planning. Monitor income, expenditure and financial performance, supporting the long-term sustainability of the practice. Oversee contractual obligations and service delivery requirements. Support achievement of QOF, Enhanced Services and other contractual targets. Liaise with the ICB, NHS England, Primary Care Network and other commissioning organisations as required. Ensure accurate reporting, submissions and performance monitoring. Premises, Business Continuity & Operations Maintain overall responsibility for premises and facilities management. Ensure safe, effective and efficient practice operations and service delivery. Oversee business continuity planning and emergency preparedness. Manage relationships with external contractors and service providers. Support the resolution of operational issues and ensure risks are appropriately identified, managed and escalated. Digital, IT & Service Development Lead and support digital transformation and IT improvement initiatives. Work with colleagues and external providers to ensure systems are utilised effectively, securely and efficiently. Encourage innovation and service redesign that enhances patient care and operational effectiveness. Support the implementation of new technologies, systems and ways of working. Monitor developments within primary care and identify opportunities for future service improvement. Clinical Governance & Service Development Support clinical leaders in maintaining effective clinical governance processes. Assist with the delivery and monitoring of enhanced services and commissioned programmes. Contribute to service development projects and business growth opportunities. Support audits, quality improvement programmes and initiatives that improve patient outcomes and service delivery. Additional Responsibilities Act as a key point of contact for external stakeholders and partner organisations. Maintain awareness of national and local developments affecting primary care. Ensure statutory and NHS reporting requirements are fulfilled. Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role as reasonably requested by the GP Partners. Place of Work Walderslade Surgery, Hoyland, Barnsley. The role is primarily based on-site and requires a visible and accessible leadership presence within the practice. Health & Safety The postholder is responsible for maintaining a safe working environment and ensuring compliance with all relevant health and safety, infection prevention and control, and risk management requirements. This includes: Promoting and implementing health and safety and infection control best practice.Identifying and reporting hazards and risks.Supporting staff training and awareness.Ensuring work areas are maintained in a safe and tidy condition.Contributing to the wellbeing and safety of patients, staff and visitors. Confidentiality In the course of their duties, the postholder will have access to confidential patient, staff and business information and must maintain the highest standards of confidentiality at all times. All information relating to patients, colleagues and the business of the practice must be handled in accordance with legislation, NHS requirements and practice policies relating to confidentiality, GDPR and information governance. Communication The postholder will demonstrate excellent communication skills and build positive working relationships with patients, colleagues, GP Partners, NHS organisations and external stakeholders. They will ensure information is communicated clearly, professionally and appropriately, promoting collaboration and effective team working throughout the practice.
