WeareseekingamotivatedBand6SpecialistSpeechandLanguageTherapist(0.8WTE)to join our Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service. This is an excitingopportunityforatherapistwithdysphagiacompetenciestoworkwithadultswhohavecommunicationand/orswallowingdifficultiesarisingfromarangeofphysicalandmentalhealthconditions.

Youwillbepartofawell-establishedteamdeliveringhigh-quality,person-centredcareacrosscommunitysettingsacrossKnowsleyandStHelens, includingoutpatientclinics,carehomes,patients'ownhomesandadultmentalhealthwards.Theroleoffersavariedcaseload,excellentopportunitiesforprofessionaldevelopmentandaccesstoregularclinicalsupervisionfromexperiencedseniorclinicians.

ThepostholderwillprovidespecialistSpeechandLanguageTherapyassessment,diagnosisandinterventionforadultspresentingwithcommunicationand/orswallowingdifficulties.

Keydutiesinclude:

1. Managinganindependentcaseloadofadultswithcommunicationandswallowingdisorders.

2. Undertakingspecialistdysphagiaassessmentsandimplementingevidence-basedmanagementplans.

3. Providingassessmentandinterventionwithinarangeofcommunityandinpatientsettings.

4. Workingcollaborativelywithpatients,carers,multidisciplinaryteamsandpartneragenciestodeliverperson-centredcare.

5. Contributingtowaitinglistmanagementandserviceprioritisation.

6. Providingadvice,trainingandsupporttocarers,supportstaffandhealthcareprofessionals.

7. Supportingservicedevelopment,clinicalauditandqualityimprovementinitiatives.

8. SupervisingSpeechandLanguageTherapyassistantsandstudentsasrequired.

Thepostholderwill:

1. Provide specialist Speech and Language Therapyassessment,diagnosis,treatmentandevaluationforadultswithcommunicationandswallowingdifficultiesassociatedwithneurological,physicalandmentalhealthconditions,includingStroke,Parkinson'sDisease,MotorNeuroneDiseaseandDementia.

2. Independentlymanageandprioritiseacomplexcaseload,ensuringtimelyandeffectiveinterventioninaccordancewithclinicalneedandservicepriorities.

3. Assessandmanagedysphagia,includingthedevelopmentandimplementationofevidence-basedeatinganddrinkingrecommendationstominimiseclinicalriskandpromotepatientsafety.

4. Delivercareacrossarangeofsettingsincludingoutpatientclinics,carehomes,patients'ownhomesandadultmentalhealthwards.

5. Develop,implementandreviewperson-centredtreatmentplans,ensuringinterventionsareoutcome-focusedandevidence-based.

6. Maintainaccurate,comprehensiveandcontemporaneousclinicalrecordsinlinewithprofessionalandorganisationalstandards.

7. Providespecialistadviceandsupporttopatients,families,carers,multidisciplinaryteamsandpartnerorganisations.

8. Contributetothemanagementandprioritisationofreferralsandwaitingliststoensureequitableaccesstotheservice.

9. Supporttheassessment,provisionandimplementationofalternativeandaugmentativecommunicationstrategieswhereappropriate.

10. Delivereducation,trainingandsupporttohealthcareprofessionals,carestaffandcarersregardingcommunicationanddysphagiamanagement.

11. Supervise,supportanddelegateworktoSpeechandLanguageTherapyassistantsasappropriate.

12. Participateinclinicalsupervision,appraisalandcontinuingprofessionaldevelopmentactivities.

13. Contributetoservicedevelopment,audit,qualityimprovementprojectsandimplementationofbestpractice.

14. ActivelypromotecollaborativeteamworkingandcontributepositivelytotheongoingdevelopmentoftheAdultSpeechandLanguageTherapyService.
