Are you an experienced Electrical Engineer, Electrical Technician or Engineering Technician with strong practical, hands-on experience? This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy engineering environment, supporting the repair, overhaul, testing, maintenance and manufacture of electrical, electronic and electro-mechanical equipment.

The role is ideally suited to candidates with experience across avionics systems, electrical/electronic engineering, cabling, communications or navigation systems. This is a genuinely hands-on position, so candidates must have practical workshop experience rather than purely theoretical or academic knowledge. The role will help deliver day-to-day engineering activity while freeing more experienced technicians to focus on complex tasks.

This role is not suitable for someone who is just starting out in electrical/electronic engineering or who has only theoretical/academic experience. Practical engineering experience is essential.

If you have a solid electrical/electronic engineering background and enjoy practical, hands-on technical work, we'd like to hear from you.

Key responsibilities

Carry out testing, diagnostics, repair, maintenance, modification and calibration of equipment.

Work down to module and individual component level using approved engineering documentation and techniques.

Manufacture and work with cables and test boxes.

Support avionics, communications and navigation systems.

Assess equipment and certify/condition items as serviceable, unserviceable or scrap, where authorised.

Assist with feasibility, development and reverse-engineering activities.

Create and support engineering documentation and test procedures.

Work within established engineering governance, safety and quality standards.

Use relevant MOD engineering and IT systems.

Provide technical support and specialist advice where required.

Where appropriate, support the training, supervision and over-signing of junior staff and apprentices.

What we're looking for

The successful candidate will have:

Practical, hands-on electrical/electronic engineering experience within a workshop or similar engineering environment.

Ideally a Level 3 Electrical/Electronic Engineering qualification, recognised apprenticeship or military equivalent. Level 4 qualification/advanced or higher apprenticeship would also be welcomed.

Experience in areas such as electrical systems, avionics, cabling, communications, navigation, electronic or electro-mechanical equipment.

The ability to follow engineering documentation, procedures and technical instructions.

A proactive, organised approach and the ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.

Good communication skills and the confidence to engage with colleagues, stakeholders and customers.

A practical mindset with a strong focus on quality, safety and getting the job done correctly.

Important practical requirements

This is a physically active, hands-on workshop role. Candidates should be comfortable spending significant periods on their feet and undertaking activities involving pushing, pulling, lifting and handling equipment.

The workshop environment can involve noise, with reasonable adjustments available where required. Some activities involve the handling of chemicals and are undertaken in accordance with COSHH requirements, with appropriate PPE provided.

Candidate catchment area

Candidates should ideally be based in or commutable from North Wales, Cheshire, Merseyside or South Lancashire, as these areas provide the intended catchment for the site.

This role is not suitable for someone who is just starting out in electrical/electronic engineering or who has only theoretical/academic experience. Practical engineering experience is essential.

If you have a solid electrical/electronic engineering background and enjoy practical, hands-on technical work, we'd like to hear from you.
