The Role

As an HGV / LGV Driver, your responsibilities will include:

  • Completing daily vehicle checks and reporting any defects immediately.
  • Safely loading, unloading and securing goods.
  • Completing local and long-distance deliveries and collections.
  • Planning routes and driver breaks in conjunction with the transport team.
  • Liaising professionally with customers and suppliers regarding delivery times.
  • Completing all delivery paperwork, logbooks and tachograph records accurately.
  • Monitoring traffic conditions and adapting routes where necessary.
  • Carrying out basic vehicle checks, including oil, tyres and brakes.
  • Following all relevant road safety requirements and the UK Highway Code.
  • Working safely in a range of conditions, including busy traffic, poor weather and night driving.
  • Following required hygiene and biosecurity procedures.
  • Carrying out depot duties when driving work is not available.
  • Supporting the training of new members of the team where required.
  • Attending relevant training as necessary.
  • Following all Health & Safety, hygiene and company procedures at all times.
  • Assisting with other operational duties when required.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • A valid UK HGV/LGV driving licence appropriate to the vehicles being driven.
  • Previous experience driving vehicles over 7.5 tonnes.
  • Experience with rigid and/or articulated vehicles.
  • A good understanding of UK road safety legislation and the Highway Code.
  • Experience completing vehicle defect checks and tachograph records.
  • Good knowledge of load security and safe loading practices.
  • Good communication skills and a professional approach when dealing with customers and suppliers.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and practical vehicle experience.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A reliable, flexible and safety-conscious approach.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage delivery schedules effectively.

A clean UK driving licence would be advantageous.
