We're looking for a Legal Secretary to join our Family Law team at Co-op Legal Services. Whether you're already working in a secretarial role or looking to develop your administrative career in a legal environment, this is an opportunity to build your skills in an ethical business with exciting plans for the future. While legal experience is welcome, it isn't essential. If you bring strong organisation, administration and secretarial skills, we'll support you to succeed in this role.
Why this role matters
As a Legal Secretary, you'll provide vital administrative support to our Family Law team, helping deliver a great client experience. From booking appointments and managing billing to preparing bundles and briefs, you'll help keep cases running smoothly. You'll work exclusively on privately funded family law matters, supporting colleagues to provide expert guidance to clients during important moments in their lives.
What you'll do
- Assist the solicitors with their cases
- Be the first point of contact for incoming client phone calls
- Liaise with external partners
- Prepare trial bundles and briefs for counsel
- Take responsibility for the family law team post and manage any outgoing correspondence
- Be responsible for billing clients and processing customer payments, as well as raising invoices for any external services used
- Organise the storage of family law files accurately recording all data
- Complete some dictation and typing work
What you'll bring
We're committed to making our roles as accessible as possible, so we only ask for the minimum criteria. To thrive here, you'll need to bring:
- Previous experience as a secretary
- An interest in or experience with working in Family Law or the Legal system
- Strong literacy skills with excellent attention to detail
- Great communication, relationship building and customer service skills
- Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills within a fast-paced and varied role
Why Co-op?
At Co-op, we're owned by our members. And because we're owned by you, we can do right by you. So when you join us, you're not just taking a job, you're joining a movement. We're an organisation that puts people and communities first, and we're powered by purpose. We want this to be a place where you can thrive, so you'll also receive:
- An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
- 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
- A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
- Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
- Coaching and training to support your career development
- Stream app - giving you access to a percentage of your pay as you earn
A place you'll belong
We're building diverse and inclusive teams that reflect the communities we serve. We welcome applications from everyone and are committed to creating a workplace where colleagues can feel like they belong, supported by our inclusive policies and the ways we work.
We're proud to be part of the Disability Confident scheme and offer interviews to disabled candidates who meet the minimum criteria for a job. If you need any adjustments during the recruitment process, we'll support you.
