Summary

Band 6 – Specialist Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist:   Early Years 

Paediatric Community Services- Newham, East London Foundation Trust 

Are you an experienced, innovative, creative speech and language therapist? Would you like to bring your skills and ideas to help us deliver change and new services? 

We have an exciting opportunity within our Family Hubs and Children's centres for a Speech and Language Therapist with specialist skills and knowledge in Early Years service delivery for children aged 0-5 years of age.

The post is an integral part of the delivery of early idnetification, early support adn early intervention for children with a range of speech , language and communication needs. Work in the Family hubs is aimed at health promotion within the SLCN pathway. 

The Early Years’ team offers specialist assessment, intervention and advice for younger children. This includes children with social communication difficulties, developmental language disorder, dysfluency and language delay. The post holder will build upon the existing Family hubs offer. They will be involved in providing training and workshops for parents and Family hub staff and implementing evidence based early language programmes.

To work closely with more senior colleagues to develop and run a service to families in Family Hubs and Children Centres promoting Early Communication.

To independently use specialist skills and knowledge, to work jointly with family hub staff and more senior colleagues to  develop services to support the identification and early intervention for the development of speech language and communication skills in children 0-5 years of age.

To independently manage a large and diverse caseload in the Family hubs, providing high quality assessment and intervention, reporting directly to the Clinical Lead when required.

To be part of the speech and language service to children of Newham in the area of Early Years. 

To provide a service which takes account of the needs of clients from a range of ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.

1. To work jointly with more senior colleagues and other agencies to set up and deliver services through Family Hubs / Children Centres promoting Early Communication skills.

2. To provide a specialist level of assessment, therapy and recommendations to children with a range of speech, language and communication difficulties in a variety of settings

3.  To work jointly with more senior colleagues and other professionals to take account of the specific communication needs of these children and plan therapy accordingly. 

4. To independently manage a caseload of children who have a diverse range of communication difficulties.  This includes screening, assessing, providing therapy, training others and reviewing progress.

5.  To co-ordinate and take a lead in the joint planning and delivery of SLCN interventions including parent workshops, drop-ins, groups and staff training within the family hubs and early years.
