A rapidly growing environmental and sustainability consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior or Principal Environmental Permitting Consultant to support the continued expansion of its regulatory compliance and permitting team. Your new role

As a Senior / Principal Environmental Permitting Consultant, you will lead the delivery of environmental permitting and compliance projects for clients throughout the UK. You will provide technical expertise, manage key client relationships and oversee the preparation of environmental permit applications from inception through to determination.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the preparation and submission of Environmental Permit applications.
  • Managing permit variations, transfers, surrender applications and compliance reviews.
  • Delivering specialist advice on Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) and associated legislation.
  • Producing technical assessments, including Environmental Risk Assessments, BAT Assessments and supporting permit documentation.
  • Liaising with regulators and statutory stakeholders throughout the permitting process.
  • Advising clients on environmental compliance obligations and regulatory requirements.
  • Managing multiple projects, budgets and client expectations.
  • Supporting business development activities and identifying opportunities for growth.
  • Mentoring junior consultants and supporting technical development across the team.
  • Working closely with multidisciplinary environmental specialists to deliver integrated project solutions.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered for this role, you should possess:

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Engineering, Chemistry or a related discipline.
  • Strong experience within environmental permitting, compliance or environmental consultancy.
  • Detailed knowledge of Environmental Permitting Regulations and UK environmental legislation.
  • Experience preparing permit applications across industrial, waste, energy, manufacturing or infrastructure sectors.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Risk Assessments, BAT assessments and regulatory compliance frameworks.
  • Excellent technical report writing and project management skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • A proactive and commercially minded approach to consultancy.

For Principal-level applicants, you will additionally demonstrate:

  • Significant project leadership experience.
  • Proven business development and client management capabilities.
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior team members.
  • The ability to lead complex, high-value environmental projects.
