Summary

Timber Mill Operative – Huws Gray Portsmouth - Right in the action - helping the mill run clean, safe and on point

We’re a driven bunch, and that shows in everything we do. We’re always looking for ways to do things better than we did yesterday – because being the first choice for our customers and a great place to work for our team is what we’re all about.

At Huws Gray people matter. You’re recognised, respected, and remembered – and in return, it’s our people who earn the trust of customers, teammates and the communities we serve.

Our loyal customers stick with us because we build strong relationships. We listen, we deliver and we go the extra mile to make sure they leave happy.

As a Timber Mill Operative, you’re all about keeping the mill running smoothly. You’ll help make sure the space is clean, safe and efficient, while giving customers friendly, reliable service. You’re a key part of the team, jumping in where needed and helping things flow without a hitch.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Safely unwrap and wrap timber packs

Operate machinery at infeed and outfeed to keep things moving smoothly

Run the baler and keep it in good shape

Help keep the mill clean, tidy and safe

Make sure stock is organised and clearly labelled

Chat with the team to keep everything running smoothly

Jump in with any other tasks that help get the job done

We’re happy to explore flexible working options. Feel free to chat with us about it during the interview. While we might not be able to meet every request, we’ll always listen with an open mind - and there’s no judgment in asking

What You’ll Bring:

You’ll need to be comfortable reading paperwork and keeping records accurate, working outdoors in all kinds of weather and managing your time well when working solo. Staying on top of health and safety and following company procedures is a must to keep things running safely and smoothly.

What’s In It For You:

We believe great work should be recognised and rewarded. Here’s what you can expect:

A strong annual leave allowance, alongside your bank holidays

Company bonus scheme, based on performance

Contributory pension and life assurance

Discounts on high street retailers, supermarkets, restaurants, gyms and cinemas

Colleague discount across our group brands

Attraction and travel discounts

Training and development programmes to support your growth

We offer on-the-job training and opportunities to work towards recognised qualifications, including apprenticeships.

At Huws Gray, we believe that a diverse and inclusive workforce makes us stronger, smarter and better at serving our customers.

We’re proud to be an equal opportunities employer and we are committed to creating a respectful and inclusive workplace, whether you’re based in one of our branches, on the road or in one of our offices.

If you need any adjustments to support you through the application or interview process, please let us know.
