Summary

A Vacancy at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

A once in a career opportunity to design, shape and staff the brand new St Thomas' Chemotherapy Aseptic Unit and be part of building something extraordinary for children. Our recruitment philosophy:

• Co-creation – staff won’t just work there, they’ll shape how it works

• Paediatrics as a specialist step – not just another aseptic unit

• Career-defining experience– opportunities for service set-up, leadership, innovation

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled and motivated aseptic services technician to step into a key leadership position within our new specialist chemotherapy aseptic preparation and dispensing unit. You will play a central role in delivering safe, high‑quality, and responsive pharmacy services to children and adult patients, contributing directly to the care of individuals undergoing complex cancer treatments.

As part of aforward‑thinking team, you’ll influence unit set up and service development, uphold quality standards, and support the continuous improvement of our aseptic operations.

This role is open to Pharmacy Technicians or experienced production technicians with a suitable underpinning qualification and science council registration. Please refer to the Person Specification for full details on the qualifications and experience required

The person will be responsible for:

The daily technical and operational management and oversight of the new St Thomas'  Chemotherapy Unit.

Ensuring the quality management system is fully implemented, maintained  and GMP compliant.

Collaborative working alongside other Cancer services and Pharmacy teams, Procurement, Engineering and External Contractors to regularly review service delivery, stock holdings, and unit maintenance.

At Evelina London, we have been passionate about providing the best possible care to children and their families for more than 150 years.

We can do this because of our 4,000 dedicated and compassionate staff spanning more than 30 specialist areas. No other children's hospital in the region offers that breadth and scale of expertise dedicated to children including the level 3 children’s intensive care unit, diagnostics (such as MRI and CT scans), and specialist children’s services (heart, kidney, gastroenterology, infectious diseases services, and many others) and that's why we are uniquely placed to deliver care to children with cancer who require the most complex treatment.

We have 50 specialist children's surgeons operating within 10 theatres, more children in research studies than any hospital in London, and our exceptional facilities mean our teams can extend pioneering research of new cancer therapies to children.

We believe we will provide the best care for children and young people with cancer and the highly skilled staff that support them.

To ensure the chemotherapy unit’s quality system is fully implemented and deviations are reported appropriately. To ensure all changes and other actions are assessed and implemented following standard operating procedures.

To be overall responsible for the workflow management and planning of all aseptic preparations.

To be responsible for the day to day management and allocation of all technical staff.

To undertake when required the roles of the senior technician including aseptic preparation and dispensing of chemotherapy and other products, and to act as a supervisor checker within aseptic areas.

To act as a role model to staff working throughout the department.

To undertake any other reasonable duties as specified by the highly specialised chemotherapy production pharmacists or chief technician.

To lead in the recruitment and selection of staff to the Trust’s chemotherapy aseptic units and assist in recruitment to the pharmacy as a whole.

To lead annual stock takes and internal audits.
