Summary
JOB SUMMARY 1.0 Job Summary The Management Accountant is responsible for supporting the Senior Management Accountant and BDU finance manager in delivering high quality and timely financial management services to all budget holders within a Business Delivery Unit (BDU)/ Corporate Services. 1.1 Providing support to the Senior/Finance Manager and budget managers in the development and delivery of the BDU/ Directorate Annual Plan 1.2 Production of the monthly BDU/Directorate management reports including financial forecasts 1.3 Intelligence gathering and investigation of service issues to advise on financial risk and options for decision making with direction from senior finance staff 1.4 Provide costing and financial analysis for service development and business cases with direction from senior finance staff 1.4 Supervision of junior BDU/ support services management accounts staff 1.5 Leadership role within the finance team; able to contribute to a multi-disciplinary team using matrix working to deliver the BDU/ directorate objectives. 2. Key Relationships BDU Finance Manager / Senior Management Accountant Budget holders within the BDU / Support Services including managers and clinicians Management Accounts team Senior staff in finance including access to specialist expertise Internal and external relationships with key stakeholders and partners in order to represent the BDU or finance department in meetings or project work 3. Key Results Areas: Financial Governance To provide advice and training to budget managers to ensure there is good understanding and compliance with Standing Financial Instructions, Standing Orders Financial Procedures and accounting policies To provide analysis and information to senior finance staff for completion of information and returns for external bodies including Freedom of Information requests To provide accurate financial information to the required timetables and detailed analysis to support the completion of statutory accounts under the direction of senior finance staff Financial Strategy and Planning To support the Senior/Finance Managers in the development and maintenance of the BDU/Support Services medium term financial plan through calculation of budgets and undertaking financial analysis as directed Provide financial support and advice to support BDU/Support Services business planning for a portfolio of budgets holders Plan and deliver detailed costing and analysis work to support BDU capital and revenue developments including business cases and delivery of Cost Improvement Plans under the direction of senior finance staff Financial Reporting and Management Accounting Produce the detailed workings for budget setting Produce the monthly management reports for the BDU/Support Services including financial forecasting Undertake analysis and investigation of service issues arising from monthly reporting for portfolio of budget holders, including consideration of financial risk. Support the Senior finance managers in the production and analysis of service line reporting. Provide professional financial support and advice for financial reporting to BDU/Support Services budget holders and other managers with the support of senior finance staff. Produce written financial analysis to support the decision making process within the BDU/Support Services directorate under supervision of senior finance staff The post holder will be expected to assess current work practices and procedures in relation to their own span of work and implement improvements where possible and contribute to development of efficient work processes which optimise the use of technology. Other duties Provide financial and costing analysis to the central finance team to support the delivery of mandatory returns or to internal facilitate benchmarking. Provide training to other finance and BDU/Support Services staff as appropriate Key member of the BDU/directorate support services team to be able to contribute to BDU/directorate projects and matrix management. Supervision of junior BDU finance staff. Work as an integral member of the finance team to ensure the Trust delivers on its statutory financial duties. Ensuring their own safety and that of colleagues, service users and visitors. Know the action to be taken in the event of a fire and must undertake fire training annually; receive supervision in line with the Trusts Supervision Policy and an annual Appraisal in line with the Trusts Appraisal Policy, during which mandatory, role specific and personal development needs should be identified and agreed; understand their responsibilities under the Trusts Equal Opportunities in Employment Policy and ensure that they adhere to the provisions of the policy; recognise, respect and support the equality diversity of staff, colleagues, service users, carers and the public. Contribute to a working environment which promotes and responds positively to difference and diversity; ensure they carry out their duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people under the age of 18 years, as issued under Section 11 of The Children Act 2004, by being familiar with and adhering to Trust safeguarding policies and participating in relevant training; comply with their professional responsibilities to develop their practice and deliver care through a Clinical Governance framework (i.e. CPD, Audit, Supervision); demonstrate, through practice and practical understanding, the importance of the continual development of individual, team and service wide quality improvement; abide by relevant codes of professional practice, with the organisation taking action when codes of conduct are breached; work flexibly to meet the needs of the service/organisation, whilst working within a culture of progressive employment practices and commitment to the Investors in People (IiP) Standards. adhere to the Trusts smoke free policies, which prohibits smoking anywhere on Trust grounds; being socially responsible by complying with measures that support the Trust in reducing or offsetting our environmental impact; Identify and report risks, hazards, incidents, accidents and near misses promptly; In addition to the Trusts own responsibilities under the Health and Social Care Act 2008, Code of Practice on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance, for your safety, ALL staff (and contractors) are responsible for ensuring their work adheres to this Code in the delivery of safe patient care.
