Summary

A career-defining opportunity

Gedling Borough Council is seeking a capable Finance Business Partner (Technical) to join our Financial Services team. Supporting the Financial Services Manager, you will help deliver the Council’s statutory accounts and technical accounting requirements while developing your expertise during a major period of change.

Local government is entering an important and exciting period of change, creating opportunities to strengthen services, modernise financial arrangements and help shape resilient, future-focused public service delivery. Alongside business-as-usual responsibilities, you will contribute to improvement and transformation work that supports the Council and the communities it serves.

About the role

Reporting to the Financial Services Manager, you will support technical accounting, coordinate agreed workstreams and supervise a small team. The Financial Services Manager retains overall accountability.

• Support preparation of the Statement of Accounts and Whole of Government Accounts, including allocated sections and working papers.

• Coordinate information and queries for the external audit process.

• Undertake agreed Collection Fund, capital and VAT accounting, statutory returns and analysis, escalating significant matters as required.

• Maintain effective financial controls, reconciliations and assurance arrangements.

• Provide technical guidance on accounting standards, legislation and financial regulations.

• Contribute to service improvement, transformation and future-focused finance work.

• Provide day-to-day supervision and development for the technical finance team.

About you

You will be CCAB qualified, hold an equivalent qualification, or have substantial relevant knowledge and experience. You will understand local government statutory accounts, the CIPFA Code and external audit. Experience of Collection Fund, capital or VAT accounting would be valuable, with development available where needed.

You will be analytical, organised and able to explain technical matters clearly. You will build effective relationships, manage competing deadlines and seek guidance when appropriate.

Why join us?

• A visible and influential role at the heart of the Council’s financial governance.

• The chance to shape technical finance arrangements during an important period of change and transformation.

• Opportunities to work across organisational boundaries, broaden your experience and build valuable professional networks.

• A supportive team environment with genuine scope to lead improvement and develop others.

• Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, generous annual leave, free parking, discounted gym membership, hybrid and flexible working, and learning and development opportunities.

• The satisfaction of using your expertise to protect public money and support high-quality services for residents and communities.

Join the journey

If you are ready for a role that offers technical challenge, professional development and the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution, we would love to hear from you. Join us in keeping Gedling financially strong today while helping to shape modern, resilient and effective local public services for the future.

Please note, you must have the right to work in the UK at the time of application; we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
