SAFEGUARDING TRUSTEE - SHAPE THE FUTURE OF SAFEGUARDING FOR VULNERABLE CHILDREN

Join the Board of an Ofsted Outstanding charity and lead strategic safeguarding for over 100 children with complex disabilities.

Your expertise will directly protect the most vulnerable whilst shaping our growth.

ABOUT CHERRY TREES

Cherry Trees is an Ofsted-rated Outstanding charity providing home-from-home short breaks for over 100 children and young people

aged 0–19 with complex disabilities.

We give children the opportunity to have fun, make friends and enjoy new experiences, while providing their families with a

much-needed break from care. Our guiding principle is simple: we see the child first and the disability second.

Following the recent opening of a new home and with further growth ahead, we are looking for an experienced safeguarding

professional to join our Board as Safeguarding Trustee.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

You will provide strategic safeguarding expertise, independent challenge and assurance to the Board, working alongside our Chief

Executive Officer, Registered Manager and Responsible Individual.

This is not an operational casework role. Instead, you will help ensure safeguarding is embedded throughout our culture,

governance and practice.

* Act as the Board's safeguarding subject-matter lead

* Provide constructive challenge and assurance to senior leadership

* Review Regulation 44 and Regulation 45 reports and monitor actions arising

* Review anonymised safeguarding and incident data and identify emerging risks or themes

* Meet periodically with the Responsible Individual to discuss safeguarding and quality

* Undertake occasional assurance visits to Cherry Trees

* Lead safeguarding discussions at Board meetings and Chair the Quality, Safeguarding & Compliance Committee

* Provide oversight of safeguarding training and practice

*

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

* A strong professional background in safeguarding policy and practice

* Experience operating at a senior strategic or leadership level

* The confidence to provide constructive challenge and independent judgement

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills

* A commitment to child-centred safeguarding and Cherry Trees' values

* An understanding of the responsibilities and legal duties of a Trustee

Previous Trustee experience is not essential, and knowledge of charity governance or finance would be advantageous but is not

required.

TIME COMMITMENT

Approximately 3 hours per month, including four Board meetings a year, quarterly committee meetings, preparation of papers and

occasional assurance visits.

Meetings take place virtually and in person at Cherry Trees in East Clandon or Passfield Common.

SAFER RECRUITMENT

This role is subject to our safer recruitment process. An Enhanced DBS check will be required and will be facilitated by Cherry

Trees.

READY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

Your expertise will help us maintain the highest standards of safeguarding as we grow, ensuring that children remain safe,

supported and at the centre of everything we do.

To discuss the role further, please contact Tracy Adams at tracy.adams@cherrytrees.org.uk.
