Primary Graduate Teaching Assistant to support pupils in either a Year 3 or Year 5 class. The school is flexible about the year group and will consider your academic background, previous experience and personal strengths when deciding where you would make the greatest impact.

Russell Group university graduates who have achieved a First-Class or 2:1 degree. This opportunity would be especially suitable for a psychology graduate, education studies graduate or another academically strong graduate with previous experience in a primary or secondary school.

The role

As a Primary Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside the class teacher to support pupils academically, socially and emotionally.

Your responsibilities will include:

    • Supporting teaching and learning in either a Year 3 or Year 5 classroom

    • Working with individual pupils and small groups to reinforce classroom learning

    • Delivering targeted interventions in English and mathematics

    • Helping pupils improve their reading, writing, vocabulary and numeracy skills

    • Supporting children who require additional guidance or encouragement

    • Helping pupils with special educational needs access classroom activities

    • Applying your knowledge of psychology, education or child development when supporting pupils

    • Preparing learning resources and assisting with lesson organisation

    • Encouraging positive behaviour, independence and confidence

    • Monitoring pupils’ progress and sharing observations with the class teacher

    • Contributing to a safe, inclusive and purposeful learning environment

    • Supporting enrichment activities, school trips and wider school life

    About you

    The school is looking for an academically strong graduate who is enthusiastic, dependable and genuinely interested in supporting children’s education and development.

    The ideal candidate will:

      • Be a Russell Group university graduate

      • Hold a First-Class or 2:1 bachelor’s degree

      • Ideally have studied psychology, education studies or another relevant academic subject

      • Have previous experience working in a primary or secondary school

      • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills

      • Be confident supporting primary-aged pupils

      • Show patience, empathy and a positive attitude

      • Be organised, proactive and attentive to detail

      • Work effectively as part of a collaborative school team

      • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting pupils’ welfare

      • Have an interest in teacher training, educational psychology, SEND or another education-related career

      • Be available for a full-time, long-term position
