Classroom Support is recruiting a Part-Time SEN Teaching Assistant to support children with additional needs within a welcoming education setting in Southwark.
You'll work alongside experienced teaching staff to help individual pupils access learning, build confidence and participate more independently in school life.
It's meaningful work, with a working pattern that doesn't necessarily have to take over your whole week.
Imagine being given a task you don't fully understand, in an environment you find overwhelming, while everyone around you appears to know exactly what they're doing.
Sometimes a child doesn't need an easier task.
They need a different way into it.
That might mean breaking an instruction into smaller steps, adapting a resource, providing additional processing time or helping a pupil regulate before returning to learning.
You'll get to know the individual children you support and learn what helps each of them engage successfully.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEN.
- Helping pupils access classroom learning at an appropriate level.
- Supporting individual learning plans and agreed strategies.
- Adapting activities and resources around different needs.
- Encouraging communication, participation and positive social interaction.
- Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
- Helping children develop confidence and independence.
- Working closely with teachers to provide consistent support.
- Observing progress and sharing relevant feedback.
- Contributing to an inclusive classroom where pupils feel they belong.
You may already have experience as a SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Support Worker, Nursery Practitioner or Behaviour Mentor.
Or your experience may have come from another education or care environment where you've supported children or young people.
A relevant qualification in education, SEND or a related field would be useful, but it isn't essential.

- Remain patient when progress takes time.
- Adapt when an approach isn't working.
- Be encouraging without doing everything for a pupil.
- Recognise when a child needs additional reassurance or support.
