Summary

To provide an advanced musculoskeletal physiotherapy service to trauma and elective orthopaedic patients admitted to the inpatient wards and day surgery unit at UCLH. To provide advanced assessment and acute injury management advice within the virtual fracture clinic, with training and support. To work as an autonomous practitioner to formulate a diagnosis and management programme according to assessment findings, and to develop and maintain high standards of patient care. To provide advanced neuro-musculoskeletal physiotherapy assessments and treatments for trauma and orthopaedic patients, often with diverse, complex or multiple pathologies and presentations. To provide advanced assessment, treatment & discharge planning pre- and post-operatively, to minimise length of stay and optimise patient rehabilitation. To provide high quality, evidence-based care to service users. To provide experienced advice, guidance and information within this area to patients, health and social care professionals, carers, relatives and other non-professionals. To deputise for senior physiotherapy staff within the Virtual Fracture Clinic and the inpatient physiotherapy team as required. To clinically supervise and guide the professional work of less experienced physiotherapists, support staff and students as appropriate, while complying with professional and departmental standards of practice. To participate in service development projects/audits/quality improvement to enhance the service and improve patient care. To be an integral member of the Trauma & Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Team, contributing to the management of the staff and service, with particular regard for all aspects of clinical governance. To work across inpatient elective and trauma orthopaedics, virtual fracture clinic, joint school and day surgery services To participate in 7 day service rota, including extended hours and weekend working Our TeamThe Trauma & Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Service at UCLH NHS Foundation Trust is integrated into the Trauma and Orthopaedic Multidisciplinary Team.The Trauma & Orthopaedic Therapy team provide an inpatient and day surgery therapy service to patients under the care of orthopaedic consultants at UCLH, in addition to pre-admission clinics for elective orthopaedic patients and physiotherapy care for patients via the virtual fracture clinic.The post holder will be responsible for supervising junior therapy staff as well as therapy assistant staff.
