Summary
Hazel Tree Education are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist provision in Wigan, supporting young adults aged 19+ with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), complex medical needs and significant additional needs.
This is a highly rewarding role for someone who is patient, compassionate and confident supporting learners with complex physical, communication and medical needs.
About the setting
This specialist provision supports young adults with severe and complex medical needs, providing a busy, vibrant and varied environment tailored around each individual's needs and abilities.
Learners access a highly personalised, multi-sensory programme, with activities designed to promote communication, engagement, independence and quality of life.
The provision offers a wide range of experiences including sensory activities, music, drama, dance, communication activities, art, wheelchair-based activities, hydrotherapy and other physical and sensory experiences.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work as part of a dedicated team to provide high-quality, individualised support to learners throughout the day.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing 1:1 and small-group support to learners with PMLD and complex needs
Supporting learners with their individual education and development programmes
Helping learners access communication, sensory and physical activities
Supporting learners with personal care and intimate care where required
Assisting with mobility and the safe use of specialist equipment
Supporting learners with complex medical needs in line with individual care plans and school procedures
Encouraging communication, independence and choice
Helping learners engage with a range of sensory and practical activities
Working closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals
Building strong, trusting relationships with learners
Maintaining a calm, positive and nurturing environment
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
Experienced working with PMLD, complex learning needs, physical disabilities or complex medical needs
Patient, compassionate and emotionally resilient
Confident supporting learners with significant and complex needs
Comfortable providing personal care where required
Able to follow detailed care plans and individual support strategies
A strong communicator who can work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Reliable, calm and consistent
Committed to promoting dignity, independence and choice
Willing to undertake any additional training required to meet individual learners' needs
Experience within a specialist school, college, care setting, residential setting, day provision or similar environment would be highly beneficial.

Successful candidates must have:
An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one
At least two professional references, including the most recent or current employer
