Within Working Age Services Digital, we are responsible for several existing services which support the core of society and is the department’s highest profile benefit service, Universal Credit.

Working Age Services is undergoing a period of technical change in line with our technical strategy – aiming to become more consistent in our ways of working, more standardised in our technical stacks, and transforming some of our services and monolithic architectures into microservices.

Our Senior Software Engineers lead and set the strategy as well as build our products and applications with researchers, testers, architects, analysts and designers as part of multifunctional agile delivery teams.

As a Senior Software Engineers, you will:

Be part of a supportive Engineering community of practice, with hundreds of engineering experts from across the UK united by passion and purpose. We’ll give you the tools and time to build your capability, with coaching, mentoring, qualifications and formal learning, meet-ups or whatever else works for you.
Be a leader in our team; you will coach and mentor our already skilled and creative Engineering team.
Share a brilliant environment with colleagues from across DWP and wider government, making it the perfect place to collaborate and build networks.
Promote software engineering practices and establishing collaborative team cultures that produce world class software solutions. 
Use your skills in software design principles, patterns, and paradigms to produce software products used by millions of people.  
Focusing on operational stability, robustness, resilience, availability, and quality you will be accountable for the code you and your teams produce. 
Promote and support the following of best practice and guide our teams on how to deliver quality software products. 
Help design and support the strategies for building reusable libraries and services. 
Support Software Engineering teams providing technical leadership and guidance.
