Job Summary
Ryen Mart Ltd is seeking an experienced and motivated Retail Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our retail stores in Greater Manchester.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing store operations, supervising and supporting staff, maintaining high standards of customer service, monitoring sales and stock performance, and ensuring the efficient and compliant operation of the business.
This is a hands-on management position, and the Retail Manager will be expected to support frontline store operations when operationally required, including assisting customers and operating the EPOS/till system during busy periods, staff breaks or unexpected staff shortages.
Responsibilities
* Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the retail store to ensure efficient and effective performance.
* Supervise, support and coordinate retail staff, ensuring duties are appropriately allocated and completed.
* Prepare staff rotas and organise shift coverage according to operational requirements.
* Train and support employees in customer service, till procedures, stock handling and company policies.
* Monitor store sales, operational performance and key performance indicators and identify opportunities for improvement.
* Maintain high standards of customer service and deal professionally with customer queries, complaints and escalated issues.
* Monitor stock levels and coordinate stock ordering, replenishment and inventory control to maintain appropriate product availability.
* Receive and check deliveries and ensure stock is accurately recorded, stored and displayed.
* Oversee product merchandising, pricing, promotional displays and general presentation of the store.
* Monitor stock losses, wastage and discrepancies and implement appropriate loss-prevention measures.
* Oversee cash-handling procedures, till reconciliations and the investigation of cash or transaction discrepancies.
* Provide hands-on support to the retail team during busy periods, staff breaks and unexpected staff shortages.
* Operate EPOS and till systems when operationally required, including processing customer purchases and cash and card transactions.
* Assist with refunds, exchanges, pricing queries and other customer transactions in accordance with company procedures.
* Support and supervise checkout operations and resolve till-related or customer-service issues where necessary.
* Ensure staff follow age-restricted sales procedures, including Challenge 25 requirements and relevant company policies.
* Ensure compliance with health and safety, fire safety, security and other applicable retail requirements.
* Maintain appropriate store records and ensure operational documentation is completed accurately.
* Liaise with suppliers and management regarding stock availability, deliveries and other operational matters.
* Analyse customer demand and sales trends to support stock planning and improve store performance.
* Assist with recruitment, induction, training and performance management of retail employees.
* Maintain appropriate standards of cleanliness, organisation, security and presentation throughout the premises.
* Report operational performance, staffing matters and significant store issues to senior management.
* Work across the company's Manchester and Hollingworth locations when reasonably required by the business.
Skills and Qualifications
* Previous experience in retail management, supervision or a similar customer-facing environment is desirable.
* Strong leadership and staff-management skills.
* Good understanding of retail store operations, stock control and customer service.
* Experience using EPOS/till systems and handling retail transactions.
* Good organisational and time-management skills.
* Ability to manage staff rotas and prioritise operational requirements.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to deal professionally with customers, employees and suppliers.
* Good numeracy skills and an understanding of cash handling, reconciliation and sales reporting.
* Ability to analyse sales and operational information and identify areas for improvement.
* Understanding of retail compliance, health and safety and age-restricted sales procedures.
* Ability to work effectively under pressure in a busy retail environment.
* A relevant qualification in business, retail management, management or a related discipline would be advantageous but is not essential.
