This is an exciting opportunity to join our Shared IT Service, supporting Winchester City Council and Test Valley Borough Council at an important point in our technology journey as we prepare for Local Government Reorganisation (LGR). We are investing in modern, secure and resilient digital services, and we are looking for a talented Senior Cloud and Infrastructure Engineer to help us shape, improve and protect the platforms that support vital public services.
You will join a friendly, collaborative and forward-thinking IT team where your technical expertise will be valued. This is a varied and meaningful role, giving you the opportunity to work across Microsoft 365, Azure, Cloud services, Cyber security, Hybrid infrastructure and Service modernisation. You will help drive improvements that directly benefit staff, services and residents across both councils.
Why this role is a great opportunity:
This role offers the chance to work on more than day-to-day support. You will be involved in shaping how our cloud and infrastructure services develop, helping to improve security, resilience, performance and user experience across a complex shared-service environment, building the foundations for upcoming LG.
About the role:
As Senior Cloud and Infrastructure Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and specialist expertise across cloud, Microsoft 365 and infrastructure services. You will help ensure our platforms are secure, reliable, scalable and well managed, while supporting continuous improvement across the wider IT environment.
The main responsibilities of the role include:
Working as part of the IT Shared Services Cloud and Infrastructure Team, providing technical expertise in the management of infrastructure architecture and systems, including Microsoft 365, Azure, cloud services, SaaS, PaaS, on-premises infrastructure and core systems.
Leading project work, migrations, configuration, administration and continuous improvement of Microsoft 365, Azure and cloud services, acting as a subject matter expert for Microsoft 365.
Implementing robust cyber security measures to protect infrastructure, systems and data, including access controls, retention, encryption, vulnerability monitoring and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
Providing third-line support for cloud and hybrid infrastructure, resolving complex technical issues and offering expert guidance to colleagues across IT.
What we offer:
In return for your commitment and enthusiasm, some of what we offer:
Flexible hybrid working arrangements
Free parking
25 days annual leave per year plus bank holidays
Membership to the Local Government Pension Scheme
This post is full-time for 37 hours per week and is based from our Winchester and Andover offices, with homeworking available where suitable. Access to a vehicle and a full driving licence are therefore essential.
