Farm Manager

The Job:

We are working with a successful and progressive family run poultry and egg packing business in West Berkshire, seeking an experienced and practical Farm Manager to take responsibility for the day to day running of the poultry farm. This is a genuinely hands on role working closely with the Business Owners and wider team. You will oversee a multi-age free range laying flock while also supporting the egg grading, packing and wider commercial operation.

The business has recently invested in a new purpose built egg packing facility and modern grading and packing equipment, creating an exciting opportunity for someone looking to take on responsibility and become a key part of the operation.

Key Responsibilities

- Oversee the day to day management of the free range laying flock, maintaining high standards of bird health, welfare and performance

- Monitor flock health, production, feed usage and environmental conditions, while maintaining accurate farm and production records

- Support egg grading, packing and dispatch, including customer deliveries and local markets when required

- Carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs to machinery, equipment, buildings and the wider farm site

- Maintain high standards of health and safety, environmental compliance and relevant assurance schemes

- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity and operational standards

- Work closely with the Business Owners and wider team, taking ownership of day to day decision making and problem solving

Alternate weekend working will be required as part of the role.

The Company:

A successful family run poultry and egg packing business operating a multi-age free range laying farm alongside an established and growing egg grading and packing operation. Eggs are produced on the farm and supplemented by supply from local producers before being graded and packed on site for a range of customers, including retailers, markets, catering businesses and food wholesalers.

The Candidate

- Previous experience within commercial poultry production, ideally with laying or free range systems

- Good understanding of poultry husbandry, flock health and animal welfare

- Practical and mechanically capable, with experience carrying out routine maintenance and basic repairs

- Organised and reliable, with good record keeping skills and the ability to manage a varied workload

- Comfortable working independently, taking responsibility and using initiative

- A natural problem solver with an interest in the wider commercial operation

- Strong team player with good communication skills and a willingness to learn and take on new challenges

- Full UK driving licence.

The Package

- Salary £40,000 DOE

Candidate Requirements
