Summary

Brook Street Recruitment is delighted to be working on behalf of our client, a well-established logistics and freight organisation based in Belfast City Centre, to recruit an experienced Freight Forwarder with strong Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) shipping experience.

This is an excellent opportunity for a freight professional who has experience managing the movement of wheeled cargo, including trailers, trucks, vehicles and heavy machinery, and who thrives in a fast-paced logistics environment.

The Role

As a Freight Forwarder, you will be responsible for coordinating the efficient movement of freight across UK and European routes, ensuring shipments are managed from booking through to final delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing freight bookings and coordinating vessel schedules.
  • Negotiating rates with shipping lines and securing vessel space.
  • Planning cost-effective and efficient transport solutions.
  • Preparing and checking all shipping documentation, customs declarations and manifests.
  • Acting as the main point of contact for customers, shipping lines, port operators and haulage providers.
  • Coordinating the movement of out-of-gauge (OOG) cargo and heavy machinery shipments.
  • Monitoring shipment progress and providing proactive updates to customers.
  • Managing Proof of Delivery (POD) documentation and resolving operational issues or delays.
  • Ensuring compliance with customs procedures and industry regulations.

Criteria

  • Previous experience within freight forwarding, shipping or logistics.
  • Strong working knowledge of RoRo operations and wheeled cargo movements.
  • Experience working with shipping lines, ferry operators or European road freight networks.
  • Good understanding of customs procedures and import/export documentation.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
  • Experience using freight forwarding or Transport Management Systems (TMS).
